Just three years ago everyone wanted to fatten their non league records by scheduling little La Habra Whittier Christian.
With a student body of 540 students and a basketball team with almost more turnovers than points and a 3-22 record, schools used the Heralds to empty the bench.
"We kept pursuing the bigger schools and they were licking their chops to get to us,'' said Whittier Christian coach Sherwin Durham, who was a first-year coach during the lopsided 2004 season.

The Heralds have four returning starters in Nick Briones, Tim McCarthy, Tom Granado, and Randy Oronoz. Last year's junior varsity MVP Jake Cokely has used game smarts to earn recent minutes.

Granado averages 21 points and 10 rebounds.
Oronoz runs the Heralds' offense and averages 11 points, with six assists. The junior point guard can pass off, or can score if needed. Oronoz has reached 16 points or better four times, reaching a high of 24 against St. Monica.
