California 2009 Preseason Rankings: Safeties

The safeties from California are always amongst the elite in the country and Fresno Edison's T.J. McDonald and Harbor City Narbonne's Byron Moore lead the list at the position from the Golden State...

USC has the market cornered at safety, with the top four players at the position in the state all committed to the Trojans.

1. T.J. McDonald, Fresno (Calif.) Edison- USC
His father was an all-American at USC and an NFL All-Pro and he thinks his son is already a better prospect at this stage.

2. Byron Moore, Harbor City (Calif.) Narbonne- USC
Moore would also be a top receiver prospect, but the secondary is where his future is.

3. Patrick Hall, Ventura (Calif.) St. Bonaventure- USC
One of the best overall athletes in the region this class.

4. Chris Metcalf, Compton (Calif.)- USC
Has played linebacker for the Tarbabes but will play safety for the Trojans.

5. Jabari Carr, San Jose (Calif.) Oak Grove
The MVP of the Oakland UnderArmour/ Combine.

6. Alex Mascarenas, Mission Viejo (Calif.)- UCLA
Another versatile defensive back, who may end up at corner in college.

7. Lester White, Riverside (Calif.) J.W. North
Big, physical player who loves to lay the big hit.

8. Nathan Fellner, Fresno (Calif.) Clovis West- Washington
Two-way threat is one of the Central Section's best players.

9. Richard Spencer, Moreno Valley (Calif.) Rancho Verde
Physical safety is often overshadowed by teammates but a stud in his own right.

10. Anthony Carpenter, Gardena (Calif.) Serra
Carpenter could make the move to corner in college but has the skill level to be a D-I safety.

11. Dijon Washington, Lawndale (Calif.) Leuzinger
Part of one of the hardest-hitting defenses around.

12. Brent Seals, La Puente (Calif.) Bishop Amat
An excellent athlete, was one of the stars of the Los Angeles UnderArmour/ Combine

13. Marte Sears, Fresno (Calif.) McClane
With his size, may end up playing weakside linebacker in college.

14. David Quiroga, Chino Hills (Calif.) Ayala
One of the best pure football players in the state.

15. Stanjariuus McKay, Long Beach (Calif.) Poly
With the entire Jackrabbits secondary off to college, McKay will be their top prospect in an always stout positional unit.
