SJS Playoffs First Round Results

Several of the top seeds roll in the first round of the CIF-SJS basketball playoffs...

Welcome to the sweet 16 and oh, how sweet it is - for Pleasant Grove.

Xavier Thames getting ready to do his thing.

The top 16 schools in each division in the CIF Sac-Joaquin section make it into the playoffs. Pleasant Grove High School got invited (earned their way 1 game at a time) to the dance and was partnered up with Del Campo High School. Pleasant Grove (PG) showed that they were no wall flower and danced all over Del Campo. PG showed why they are so good, with D1 Washington State – WaZu - recruit Xavier Thames leading all the way. There was nothing Del Campo could do as Xavier put on a basketball clinic tonight for all to watch. When it was all said and done, PG put Del Campo to rest 66 to 56.

It wasn't just the Xavier Thames show of course, but he proved that he is the leader of the team. The victory was shared with Glenn Akerland, Shauwn Brooks, Michael Madkins and the rest of the PG team. An injured player during the regular season, Brian Wells, made an appearance during the game and we hope to see him again this Friday for the second round.

Bryan Wells, with the ball, is back in action, just in time for the playoffs.

With the team completely healthy and several star underclassmen brought up to join the varsity team, PG just may pull off their first appearance at Arco arena.

Times are really bad. The biggest, and oldest, bay area news paper is up for sale and now the SacBee in trouble as well, hopefully the Sac-Joaquin section of the CIF will find someone to cover their sporting events in the future. One thing is for sure, as long as there are players like Xavier Thames GSP will be covering the action. For Xavier "X" Thames is worth the price of admission and then some.

How did the rest of the party do – see below.

X is about to make something out of nothing.

How do you stop X ? Just ask the Del Campo defender above. But you'll pay at the line.
