Doors Opening For Barksdale

Chula Vista (Calif.) Eastlake quarterback D'Angelo Barksdale had a busy schedule during the summer and spring, but it's been paying off for him.

And it came in the form of an offer from Princeton.

"D'Angelo received an offer from Princeton (last) week," said his father, Derek. "He has been talking with Coach Hughes all summer and was informed of the package coming in the mail which he received on Tuesday."

Barksdale has been all over during the spring and summer, taking in numerous camps and combines.

He was named the San Diego National Underclassman QB MVP, an NUC West Ultimate 100 Standout QB, invited to the Top Gun Academy at FBU and participated in the Los Angeles Nike Camp, San Diego FBU Camp and Los Angeles Combine.

And numerous schools have Barksdale on their watch list.

D'Angelo continues to receive interest from Oregon, Oregon State, UTEP, Maryland, Northwestern, Colorado, Colorado State, Idaho, Nevada, San Diego State, Dartmouth, Air Force, Army, Utah State, San Diego, and Georgetown," said Derek Barksdale.

A strong start could be huge for Barksdale.

"Most want to see his first three games before pulling the trigger because he only played eight games last year due to injury," said Derek Barksdale.

Colorado is one program in constant communication with him.

"Although Colorado picked up a solid quarterback this year, Coach Keisau and Coach Hawkins made a big impression on D'Angelo. He has been in contact with them and considering options as an athlete or grey-shirt with them," said Derek Barksdale.

For now, though, Princeton is out in front.

"Princeton holds a special place with him because of the offer and the educational prestige that comes along with it," said Derek Barksdale.

During his junior year, Barksdale averaged 163 yards per game, 10.4 yards per attempt and had 63% accuracy.
