Anthony Wilkerson earns Player of the Week honors in the first edition of Stars of Friday Night....

The Player of the Week award goes to Tustin running back Anthony Wilkerson. Wilkerson had 27 carries for 354 yards and scored six touchdowns to help Tustin to a 56-28 win over Kennedy.

Anthony Barr, the top running back on the West Coast, had a strong opener, rushing for 125 yards on 30 carries and scoring two touchdowns, to help Loyola to a 28-18 win over Mira Costa..

The Barr-Jones debate will be hot all year, and Malcolm Jones had the better opener, rushing for 275 yards and three scores on a workman-like 37 carries to help Oaks Christian to the 28-17 win over Alemany.

Fresno Edison was led by defensive end Rykeem Yates, who had three sacks and forced a fumble in a 36-7 over Clovis.

Junior quarterback Connor Preston was stellar in his Serra debut, going 17-for-24 for 217 and four scores in a 61-0 rout of Victorville Silverado.

Carpinteria punter Jeremy Stein averaged 45-yards a punt, including a 59-yard boomer, and caught three passes for 38 yards but it wasn't enough as the Warriors dropped their opener to Santa Ynez, 23-14.

San Diego Scripps Ranch, behind Brennan Clay, stopped Poway, 37-14. The future Oklahoma Sooner rushed 19 times for 135 yards, then caught five passes for 147 yards and even completed a six-yard pass out of the Wildcat.

Junior kicker Jake Van Ginkel from Upland kicked three field goals from 35, 44, and 20 yards, was 2-2 on PAT`s and had one punt for 54 yards with the returner tackled on his own five yard line, to finish with 11 points as Upland beat A. B. Miller, 23-8.

Mark Borland had 16 carries for 201 yards and four touchdowns, then defensively was stout with 18 tackles, two forced fumbles and a blocked punt for San Jose Santa Teresa, who downed Saratoga, 42-36.

Fountain Valley quarterback Dominic Ragland threw for 230 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 60 yards on eight carries in a 44-21 win over Foothill.

Salesian routed Bishop Diego 49-6, behind the defensive efforts of Gilbert Dominguez, who had 12 tackles and an interception, five carries for 23 yards and six catches for 65 yards. Michael Mora chipped in 11 tackles, six for loss and a sack and caught three passes for 55 yards and a score. Evan Bracken had eight carries for 65 yrds, two receptions for 28 yards and a touchdown and three punt returns for 85 yrds.
