CIF-SS Baseball Recaps

Division I-V

Palm Desert 9
Torrance 0

Palm Desert captured the title by blanking Torrance 9-0.  Torrance shocked top seed Bishop Amat and beat in Indio but couldn't get passed the pitching of senior Nick Baker. Baker threw a four hit complete game and had Torrance hitters on the back of their heels. Palm Desert was led by junior Ryan Garvey, son of Steve Garvey. Garvey chipped in two hits and scored three runs. Also leading the charge for Palm Desert was third baseman Austin Sylvester with three RBI.

Division III

Ocean View 2
Bonita 1

After scoring the first run of the game in the top of the 1st inning, Bonita couldn't do anything else offensively as Huntington Beach Ocean View wins the Division 3 title. Robert Mier scored on sacrifice fly by Evan Highley for the Bearcats in the first inning.  Blake Hitchkock scored the tying run in the bottom of the 2nd inning on a ground out by senior first baseman Nick Schulenburg for Ocean View. Blake Walker grounded out to score Colton Johnson which ended up being the winning run in top of 3rd inning for Ocean View. Bonita's junior pitcher Adam McCreery threw 5 innings and gave up two runs, one earned for the loss.  These two have a great chance of meeting again next year in the playoffs as both teams return most of their top players.

Division II

Glendora 10
Yucaipa 3

Probably the best pitching match up was thought to be seniors Adam Plutko of Glendora and Yucaipa's Taijuan Walker. Adam Plutko capped an amazing season by stopping Yucaipa 10-3. The UCLA Bruin commit threw a completed game giving up five hits and three earned runs. Taijuan Walker, one of the top pitching prospects in southern California, had an off day. The senior Walker threw three innings and walked five Tartan batters. Glendora was led offensively by Kyle Layton who had a double, triple, two runs and two RBI.

Division I

Mater Dei 2
Dana Hills 0

Mater Dei capped off a perfect season by pitching a perfect game against Dana Hills.  Senior and Arizona State commit Cory Hahn and sophomore Ty Moore combined to blank the Dolphins. Dana Hills lefty Eric Hsieh walked Konnor Armijo in the bottom of the 2nd inning. With two outs, Jacob Medina hit a routine fly ball to left fielder A. J. Roth which was lost in the sky and dropped in for a base hit scoring Armijo. That was all Mater Dei needed. Mater Dei's Cory Hahn pitched five perfect innings striking out seven batters. Hahn also capped off the night with a home run that sailed well over 420 feet in the 6th inning. Ty Moore finished the title run for the Monarchs by pitching the last two innings.
