Discovery Canyon quarterback Alec Wirtjes has an intriguing skill set for college programs. At 6-5, running a 4.6 forty and boasting a 34 inch vertical, the productive signal caller could play multiple positions in college. Along with his athletics Wirtjes is a very good student. According to Wirtjes Colorado State likes him as a potential tight end. Air Force is looking at Wirtjes as a QB but according to Wirtjes "they are still evaluating possible other positions for me." Wirtjes visited an Air Force practice this week to meet the Falcon coaches.
ThunderRidge, currently unbeaten is off to a strong start in 5A. A key is the diversity of the ThunderRidge offense. Always physical, ThunderRidge has added a strong pass element with senior QB Brody Westmoreland and go to receiver Mark Hopper. Hopper, a big 6-3 receiver, is having a very good season with 21 catches with four touchdowns while averaging over 20 yards a reception. Hopper has yet to receive an offer but is gaining solid attention from South Dakota State and Colorado School of Mines.
Also strong in 5A this season is Chatfield High School in Littleton, Colorado. The Chargers, 4-0, are getting great leadership and playmaking from senior linebacker Shawn Berry. The 6-2 215 pound inside backer is leading the team in tackles and has also added an interception. Currently without an offer, Berry says Oregon likes him as a preferred walk on. Berry has also made two game day visits to Colorado State and Colorado was recently at a Chatfield game. Berry will take a trip to Wyoming and would like to check out Arizona State and Virginia.
Andre Apodaca of 3A power and defending state champ Silver Creek reports he has started to get increasing interest from Marshall and Valparaiso.
Cherry Creek athlete Jaeden Graham has so far this month taken unofficial trips to Colorado and Wyoming. Wyoming as well as Columbia,Northern Colorado, New Mexico State, UTEP and Yale have offered the talented athlete.
