Over the past two season few if any players in the state of Colorado have made more tackles than 2014 Regis Jesuit inside linebacker Quinn VandeKoppel. This season VandeKoppel, leading one of the state's best Ds, has already posted 77 tackles, grabbed an interception and recovered four fumbles.
The 6-1 220 pound backer has a nose for the ball based on a strong work ethic on and off the field. With a 3.58 GPA, the honor student studies hard in the class and in the film room as part of game preparation. Talking about his game prep VandeKoppel says, "I really study film hard during the week so that when it comes to game time, I already have a good idea what the offense is going to run out of each formation. This allows me to read fast and play downhill."
Currently the Regis defense is allowing only 13 points a game and VandeKoppel attributes the defensive success on the, "time and dedication we put in for each game week, also how close we are as a unit." A team first leader, VandeKoppel credits a talented Regis defensive line that makes it, "easier for the linebackers and defensive backs."
A PrepColorado All-State pick, VandeKoppel has yet to gain a first offer but is garnering serious looks from multiple college programs from various levels. According to VandeKoppel TCU, Drake, Harvard, SW Minnesota State, Missouri and CSU-Pueblo are all in contact. Of this group Drake and Southwest Minnesota State want to bring the productive backer in for official visits.
Regarding playing in college VandeKoppel says, "I would love to play DI in college, I think I'm capable of this goal, but I just need to continue working hard and believing god has a plan for me."
Focused, hardworking and productive on the field, VandeKoppel will get a chance to play college ball and will at some point be a contributor. Currently his focus is on this week's game against Mountain Vista and helping secure his 6-1 squad a solid position in the upcoming 5A playoffs.
