The first round of 5A playoffs is often anticlimactic as top teams face teams that struggled during the regular season. Now the playoffs take on a more competitive look with a slate of interesting matchups.
Douglas County is excited to have its offensive line intact and Trey Smith's big game last week is an indication of what the line can accomplish, but more importantly can the Douglas County DBs keep Fairview in check. Look for the Knights to outscore the Huskies.
In the Pomona versus Chatfield matchup the question becomes can the Chargers contain Chris Marquez. For the season Chatfield has had difficulty against the run game. Look for another game with a lot of points as Pomona moves on.
Former Regis Jesuit running back Chukwuma Obinnah of Grandview needs to have a big game against his former team. Regis is one of the most consistent teams in Colorado and is playing great football at the right time. Their offensive line and defense should get them through this game.
Doherty RB Zach Young may be able to keep things close early, but the ThunderRidge offensive line and multiple skill weapons will prove too much for Doherty in the second half.
The Valor D will make things difficult for QB Jacob Knipp of Ralston Valley. Offensively for Valor will the Eagles mix things up or continue a steady dose of McCaffrey.
It has been four weeks since Bernard McDondle has had 20 or more carries. This may be the week he needs to tote the mail numerous times to keep pace with a balanced Grand Junction offense. I like the Tigers to win in a high scoring game.
Look for Cherry Creek to get the win, but Overland QB Austin Conway always makes things fun. The Bruins should pound on the ground with their multi back attack.
Cherokee Trail will have too much speed for Mountain Range, but congrats to the Mustangs for making some noise in playoffs.
