Player to Watch: Justin Roberts

With a season as the starter under his belt and greater responsibility for the offense, 2015 Pomona QB Justin Roberts is working hard for a breakout senior season.

This past season, Pomona High School, one of the most consistent programs in Colorado, once again had a strong season based on a big line and rugged run game. With the graduation of All-State running back Chris Marquez and linemen Kendall Ryan and Zach Stefo, much of the offensive load will fall on 2015 quarterback Justin Roberts.

Looking to build on last season's 65% completion rate and nearly 1,000 yards passing, Roberts has a skill set on which to move forward. An athletic 6-3 195 pounds, Roberts is a multi-sport athlete that runs a 4.8 forty and has a 31 inch vertical. Film review shows a player that is comfortable throwing from the pocket as well as on sprints and boots. Robert's athleticism also makes him a threat to run the ball when necessary.

Beyond solid skills, Roberts boasts numerous intangibles. Holding a 3.98 GPA, Roberts was Academic All-State. The son of a high school coach and former college and pro quarterback, Roberts understands the work it takes to play the game's most challenging position.

In an attempt to build his game and recruiting profile, Roberts has a very busy spring schedule set up. Roberts has already made Junior Day at Colorado and he plans on hitting Juniorr Days at Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, South Dakota State and Northern Colorado. Beyond these schools, Harvard, North Dakota and North Dakota State have shown initial interest.

To get on college radars and eventually gain a college offer, Roberts needs to have a strong offseason and good camp performances. Next season is key for Roberts as he leads the Pomona offense, building a statistical resume and moving his team to another playoff run.
