2015 Pine Creek quarterback Tommy Lazzaro checks all the boxes colleges look for in a quarterback. Lazzaro, at 6-3 200 pounds has great size. He is a winner, guiding his team to the 2013 4A state title. He has the arm to make the necessary throws and the athleticism to be a run threat. Despite this, Lazzaro has yet, to the surprise of many, gained a first offer.
Lazzaro is getting steady mail and has picked up numerous invitations to camps this summer. On the docket for camps are Wyoming, Colorado State, Arizona and potentially Washington and Utah State. Lazzaro has increased his profile this offseason playing quarterback for one of the nation's top 7on7 units, Team Weapon X. Regarding his time with Weapon X Lazzaro says, "It really helps me better myself by practicing and playing against top caliber athletes. It makes me be on top of my game all the time. All those guys bring the best out of me and help me with progressing my abilities."
Looking at his own game, Lazzaro is working on making his drops more fluid. Lazzaro is also focusing on his ability to read defenses. Lazzaro's Pine Creek squad is traditionally a run based team, but last season, wanting to put Lazzaro's skills to work, Pine Creek aired it out nearly 200 times. For the season Lazzaro threw 21 touchdowns against only 8 interceptions. Next season look for Lazzaro to find teammate Avery Anderson in the pass game numerous times. Lazzaro and Anderson highlight a squad focused on defending their 2013 title.
Next up for Lazzaro is Tampa, Florida where he and Team Weapon X will attempt to win a national title at the IMG championships. This high profile tournament along with his college camps will give Lazzaro numerous opportunities to showcase his skills and come away with an offer sometime this summer.
