Needless to say 215 pound running backs who run in the 4.4/4.5 range are desired commodities as colleges put together their recruiting boards and camp invite lists. Due to this, 2015 running back Chuk Obinnah will have a busy summer as he sorts through his schools of interest.
According to Obinnah 20 plus schools from across the country are in contact. Close to home Colorado, Colorado State, Wyoming and Air Force are all in communication. Outside of Colorado, Arizona State, Washington, Minnesota, Stanford, Kansas State as well as numerous others are contacting the big back. Obinnah made a visit to Princeton earlier this spring and is interested in Ivy schools.
Obinnah played through a knee injury suffered late in the season and is currently working to get back to 100%. Due to this colleges are taking a wait and see posture with Obinnah and want to see him live at camps. Regarding offers Obinnah says, "I'm banking on getting some (offers) in the camps and during the season."
Reviewing Chuk's film there is no doubt regarding his upside and potential as a college back. A one cut runner, Obinnah gets north and south quickly and runs through arm tackles. His speed is evident as he bounces to the outside and turns on the jets when he gets a seam. Obinnah's size allows him to finish runs and punish tacklers. This past season Obinnah matured as a runner and has become more patient, allowing the play to develop. He also has the ability to lower his pads, push the pile and score close to the goal line. As he the playbook opens it will be interesting to see how Obinnah does as a receiver out of the backfield and as a blocker in passing situations.
