The early portion of Colorado high school football season has potentially seen its top performance as 2015 Overland athlete Josh Wright had a monster game Thursday night as his Overland squad defeated Rangeview 47-14.
Wright did it all for the Trailblazers averaging an astounding 24 yards a carry while rushing for 313 yards and scoring six times. Wright added two catches and had two kick returns for 87 yards.
Overland is currently unbeaten as it moves to the heart of its schedule in Colorado’s toughest league that includes powers Valor Christian, Cherokee Trail, Cherry Creek and Grandview. The very talented Trailblazers should be competitive based on the talented skill players on the roster. Wyoming basketball commit and top Colorado athlete Austin Conway runs the team from his quarterback position, working not only with Wright but also up and coming receiver Sam Warren, talented Ahjon White and Wyoming football commit Kevin Prosser.
Wright, a 5-10 170 pounder, after Thursday performance, may no longer have hidden gem status. One of the states’ top defensive backs, Wright plays at a high level at corner and safety and looks especially suited to play nickel at the next level. Regarding recruiting Wright is hearing from Wyoming, Weber State, Utah State, North Dakota, Eastern Washington as well as DII schools CSU-Pueblo and Fort Hays.
One of the state’s top hurdlers and reporting a 4.4 forty, Wright has the speed for the next level and at corner plays an aggressive style that is solid against the run and pass. As Wright continues to post big numbers, highlighting his athletic skills, look for schools of interest to become schools that have offered.
