For over two years PrepColorado has touted the play of 2015 Valor Christian two way standout Gabriel “Bubba” Watkins. The 6-0 210 pound RB/LB came on the scene blocking for former Valor star and current Stanford freshman Christian McCaffrey.
Now Watkins is one of the top outside backers in Colorado using his 10.9 speed to rush off the edge and cover against the pass game. After a too long wait, Watkins is reporting that he just received his first offer from Air Force.
The talented two way player says Air Force wants him to play outside linebacker. Watkins has been to the Academy to watch the Falcons play Boise State and he will be in attendance for the Colorado State game. Beyond Air Force Watkins has heard from Utah State, Colorado, Colorado State, North Dakota, South Dakota, Indiana State and New Mexico State. Regarding the Academy Watkins says, “I have some military background and I’ve always been super interested in and everything that goes along so this is pretty awesome.”
So far this season Watkins has registered 7.5 TFLs for his 6-2 Valor squad that is in the thick of a very tough conference race. Working off the edge from a two point stance using his speed Watkins gets pressure on the QB, has the motor to chase down plays and is strong enough to set the edge. Coached up, Watkins uses his hands well, has multiple pass rush moves and can cover.
Somewhat under sized, Watkins speed and work ethic will allow him to see the field early as a special teams player.
