Over the past two seasons the Pine Creek Eagles have dominated 4A football going 26-2 winning back to back state titles. Using balance with a senior laden squad filled with college level talent, Pine Creek won this year’s state title game 45-20 against Longmont.
In the title game senior back Josh Odom rushed for over 280 yards while QB Tommy Lazzaro pulled the strings guiding the O to another big performance. Lazzaro talking about the title said, “It is the best feeling in the world, knowing that my last game with this group of guys was a great win for a state championship.”
Beyond the seniors, do it all performer, sophomore JoJo Domann, had a pick six on defense and a touchdown reception on offense. Domann and his fellow underclassmen give Lazzaro confidence that Pine Creek will continue to excel stating, “Pine Creek will always be a dominating team because of the work ethic and values of (head coach) Todd Miller and the rest of the coaches instill in us.”
Lazzaro, a 6-4 210 pound quarterback with a very strong arm and solid mobility, is one of Colorado’s under recruited players and has yet to gain an offer despite his athletic skills and pedigree as a winner. According to Lazzaro he is hearing from Indiana and DII power CSU-Pueblo. At some point an offer will come Lazzaro’s way and a college program, most likely a DII, will gain a leader that knows how to win.
