Recruiting News and Notes

With the Colorado high school football season over, the pace of recruiting has increased with multiple players getting closer to college decisions.

2015 offensive lineman Tanner Kai Wilkey of Longmont says regarding recruiting, “It's been going real well I'm hoping to pick up a few more offers in the next few weeks from Georgetown, North Dakota, New Mexico State and Colorado.”  Currently the 6-7 300 pound offensive tackle holds an offer from the University of San Diego.

2015 linebacker Max McDonald of Rocky Mountain is visiting South Dakota and plans on taking visits to Colorado State and Eastern Washington.

PrepColorado caught up with 2015 Bear Creek speedster Olabisi Johnson, an early Colorado State commit, regarding Jim McElwain’s move to Florida.  “It's unfortunate but I'm still solid with them I love the town and it's still close to home.”  Johnson says Ram assistant Marty English is staying in close contact with him.

The Colorado Buffalo staff is very aware that 2016 and 2017 Colorado prospects will be hot commodities, some at the national level.  This week the Buffs were very active making offers to 2016 Pine Creek athlete Jo Jo Domann as well as 2017 prospects Jake Moretti, Marcus McElroy and Christian Cumber.  These offers are in addition to an early offer to 2017 Valor QB Dylan McCaffrey.  Domann is a very versatile outside linebacker prospect.  Moretti of Pomona is a physical offensive lineman, who will gain national attention.  McElroy, of Denver Mullen, is a young running back with a great combination of size, speed and production.  His Mullen teammate Christian Cumber, a safety, is a great prospect with very good coverage skills for a young player.

Augustana College in South Dakota has hit Colorado hard for recruits over the last couple of years and thus far has secured a commit from Cherry Creek RB D.J. Luke.  This weekend Luke made his visit to Augustana.  Joining Luke on the visit was Prairie View tight end Zach Peterson.  If the Vikings could add Peterson it would be a great haul from the Colorado 2015 class. Peterson also holds an offer from Colorado School of Mines and is gaining Ivy interest from Yale, Penn and Cornell.

Talented 2015 Overland RB/CB Josh Wright reports significant DII interest with Colorado Mesa, Fort Hays, Western State, Washburn, Black Hills and Chadron State all showing staying in contact.

2015 Chaparral QB Kyle Gallup is also gaining significant DII attention, reporting Western State, Augustana and Black Hills are all in contact.  Gallup’s individual goal is to play DI and he is in contact with Central Florida, Wyoming, San Diego State, Marshall, North Texas, Tulane and the University of San Diego.  Gallup reports he would be willing to go to a school as a preferred walk on at a DI school.
