One of the best pieces of film I have seen this year belongs to 2016 Ranvgeview High School prospect Elijah Reed. The 6-3 182 pound safety/receiver is a long athlete who is capable of making big plays on both sides of the ball.
Popping off the film is Reed’s length, not only tall, Reed has a huge reach which allows him to attack the ball and go get it at its peak. A long strider, Reed also has the ability to close on the ball defensively and get separation as a receiver. Offensively Reed was a beast in the redzone grabbing eight TD passes.
Most impressive, as a free safety, when given the opportunity, Reed is a physical tackler. This, with his ball skills and size, make Reed a prototypical free safety.
Right now Reed is in the midst of a very successful basketball season averaging nearly 10 points and 6 boards a game for his 18-5 squad but he also has serious plans regarding his prep for football this offseason. Reed is focused on getting bigger and faster, taking visits and hitting as many camps as possible. Not completely under the radar, Reed has gained initial contact from Missouri, Utah and Wyoming.
Reed has too much going for him and will gain increasing recruiting attention this spring. Projecting a few years down the road the 6-3 Reed will be an impressive college player at over 200 pounds playing with good instincts and impressive ball skills.
