An exciting slate of Zero Week games highlights what will be a very exciting 2015 Colorado prep football season.
Longmont had a nice season opener taking on defending 3A champ Pueblo East and getting a 48-27 win. Trojan senior Conlon Berger did it all scoring five time, four on the ground and one reception on the way to 169 total yards. Versatile Cooper Rothe hit two field goals one of 55 yards and had a pick in the win.
Senior quarterback Joe Caplis paced the Bruins in their opener against Heritage with a 31-0 win over Heritage. Caplis started the Bruins’ title defense with three touchdown passes.
Grand Junction senior back Austin Taylor had 144 rush yards and two TDs in hard fought 14-10 victory over Montrose.
Nik Morgan of Aspen was big scoring three times while rushing for 170 yards as the Skiers defeated Montezuma-Cortez 29-12.
Pine Creek opened their title defense defeating Pueblo Centennial 45-0. In the win senior running back D’Andre Tolliver had three scores for the Eagles.
Overland senior WR Sam Warren had seven catches and quarterback Ray Rountree scored three times as the Trailblazers won the zero week game 48-6 over Smoky Hill.
Senior running back Tyler Bosshardt of Rifle averaged over 16 yards a carry on the way to 128 yards and two scores on the ground, also adding a TD pass reception as his Bears defeated Grand Valley. For good measure Bosshardt blocked a field goal, punted and worked as a returner.
Junior QB Kole Roberts of Delta threw for 266 yards primarily to fellow junior Beau Byers who had seven catches and two touchdowns averaging nearly 20 yards a reception as their Delta squad defeated the Classical Academy 38-35. In the loss Classical Academy senior RB Jayce Hall rushed for 207 yards.
