Phenoms Week 1

QB Chris Helbig of Holy Family highlights the week one Phenoms with a record setting performance.

Right off the top it will be tough to beat the game 2016 Holy Family QB Chris Helbig posted this weekend in a 49-43 win over Mountain View.  Helbig, who threw for over 3,100 yards last season, put up 607 yards while tossing 6 TDs.  Junior Michael Zeman was the primary beneficiary of Helbig’s hot hand with seven catches for 190 yards and two scores.  Ryan Casey of CHSAA has confirmed that Helbig’s performance is a Colorado state record.

TeQuan Baker had four rush TDs to go with 185 rush yards pacing Doherty to a 34-8 win over Palmer.

Senior Jeremy Lujan of Dakota Ridge rushed for 254 yards and three scores as Dakota Ridge handled Monarch 38-9.  One the evening working as a runner, receiver and returner Lujan put had 350 total yards.

Thursday Marcus McElroy had 185 rush yards and three scores as Mullen blanked Gateway 41-0.  McElroy put up the gaudy numbers on only eight touches.

Mountain Vista junior quarterback Judd Erickson had a very good opener going 19 of 24 with three scores.  Mountain Vista senior defensive lineman Matt Yockey had three sacks in the 38-0 victory over Mountain Range.

Senior Will McKissick rushed for 225 yards and four scores as Kent Denver defeated Gunnison 41-13.

QB Elway Tubbs of Vista Ridge, who it seems has been starting forever, threw for three scores as his squad defeated Northglenn 48-21.

Junior signal caller Javion Byrd threw four touchdown passes as George Washington defeated Lincoln 50-0.

Cade Verkler rushed for 187 yards and three scores as Horizon defeated Prairie View.

Tate Kembel had four rush touchdowns helping Fort Morgan defeat Brush 47-7.

Sophomore quarterback L.t. Beck of Douglas County passed for three scores, each one needed, as his Husky team beat Arvada West 27-26.
