Another big week for Chris Helbig and Holy Family

Another record setting week from around the state of Colorado.

For the second week in a row a Holy Family performer not only highlights the Phenoms but sets a state record.  In a 64-60 track meet between Holy Family and Discovery Canyon in which Holy Family held on to win paced by QB Chris Helbig, fresh off last week’s state record 607 yards passing, as he threw for 453 and, get this, seven touchdowns. 

As great as Helbig’s game was, Holy Family’s record setter was 6-1 180 pound junior receiver Joe Golter who had 18 receptions, four scores and 336 receiving yards.  In the loss Discovery Canyon junior RB Josh Tomjack had four scores to go with 209 rush yards.

Poudre, now 2-0, picked up a win this weekend over Northglenn as junior quarterback James Campbell threw for three scores.

Another quarterback riding a hot streak, senior Adam Clary of Dakota Ridge, threw three touchdown passes as his Eagles defeated Silver Creek.  Clary will have to have his A game Thursday as his senior heavy and talented squad takes on defending 4A champ Pine Creek in 4As top matchup so far this season.

Vista Ridge punished Pueblo West 55-7 behind senior QB Elway Tubbs’ four touchdowns on a nearly perfect passing night. 

Fairview senior QB Thomas Creese continues the tradition of Fairview signal callers that can sling it.  This week, in a win over Boulder, Creese hit on 362 yards with three scores.  Creese’s go to guy was junior Tommy Wakefield who had 10 catches and two scores.  In the loss senior Boulder back TJ Jones rushed for 188 yards and two scores. 

Junior Tate Kembel of Fort Morgan carried 10 times for 114 yards and two scores and added a 62 yard kick return for a score as Fort Morgan took it to Niwot 49-0.

Few Colorado prep backs are having a better season than 5-10 185 pound senior Nathan Holdridge of Lutheran.  Averaging over 200 yards rushing a game, Holdridge rushed for 289 yards and five scores in a victory over Frederick.

Meeker running back TJ Shelton had four touchdowns this weekend in a win over Coal Ridge.

Tiny, 5-6 140 pound, freshman Grand Junction Central running back, Cade Baleweg, rushed for 217 yards and four scores in a loss to Vista Peak.  With little or no defense played in the 56-48 game, Vista Peak QB Derrick Smashum (great football name) threw for over 450 yards.  Bison receiver Dylan Holt had 13 receptions and three scores. 

Grandview junior RB Hayden Blubaugh has put up 370 rush yards so far this season with four scores as the Wolves have started 2-0. 

Senior Hank Bode of Platte Canyon rushed for 192 yards and two scores in a win over Wiggins.

Aurora Central senior RB Taevon Jordan averaged over 14 yards a carry on the way to 114 yards and two scores as Central moved to 2-0 with a win over Thornton.
