Legacy QB and UCLA commit Matt Lynch leads squad to big win.

UCLA Bound QB Has Strong Night

Over the past two seasons Legacy vs. Fairview has become one of the more interesting rivalries in Colorado.  A year ago, Fairview, in potentially last season’s most exciting regular season game, defeated Legacy 50-49 on a two point conversion.  Last night, Legacy got the win, again in an exciting game, 36-29. Key to the win was a 22 point second quarter that allowed the Lightning to take control of the game.

The game was highlighted by two of the state’s best quarterbacks, Matt Lynch of Legacy and Thomas Creese of Fairview.  Lynch, who will graduate early and enroll at UCLA this spring, is a very talented dual threat quarterback, who may have his best football in front of him.  Creese, a first year starter, continues the line of talented Fairview quarterbacks.  Creese, has yet to gain an offer but is gaining initial interest due to his strong arm and quick release.

Statistically Creese had his best game of the season throwing for over 400 yards.  The primary beneficiaries of Creese’s arm were receivers Tommy Wakefield, Quinn Sharp and David McWilliams each of whom had 10 or more receptions. National recruit Carlo Kemp of Fairview added a short TD run. For Legacy, receiver Derek Coleman made big plays all night and returner Devin Morales took a kick 98 yards to the house.

Lynch threw for 250 yards and added a late 25 yard touchdown run to help ice the game.  Regarding the win Lynch stated the key was to, “stay positive and just believe in ourselves and the play calls and just making things happen.”

Lynch, who plans to graduate at the semester and enroll early at UCLA so he can participate in spring ball for the Bruins, is still focused on Legacy as they prep for playoffs stating, “I'm so excited, but I have to stay focused and finish up the semester strong.”

Legacy, now 7-2, like all playoff bound teams will wait, as they find out who their first round opponent is.  If Lynch can continue his high level of play the Lightning could be a tough out.
