Tracking down Jake Moretti after his Buckeyes were upset yesterday by Michigan State is a tough proposition. A great young man, Moretti is 6-5 280 pounds and why poke the bear when you don’t have to?
After the brief discussion regarding Ohio State, a program Moretti committed to this summer, the discussion turned to Pomona football and the run the young Panthers are making behind Moretti and the Panther offensive line. This past weekend, Pomona imposed their will against a talented Grandview High School winning 32-23 to move to the semi-finals of 5A playoffs. In the win, junior running back Cameron Gonzales rushed behind Morreti and crew for 238 yards and four scores.
Moretti, who is very impressive with a team first, team always attitude, states about this weekend’s win, “There was a bunch of great things happening on the field from our team but, biggest of all, just the level of intensity everyone played at it was awesome to be a part of.” Pomona will need to bring that intensity once again as Pomona takes on Columbine for a chance t0o play in the state championship.
Fans of hardnosed football should make the pilgrimage to the Pomona vs. Columbine game, highlighting teams that love to run the ball and play tough defense. So far this season, Pomona, paced by Gonzales and sophomore Max Borghi, have rushed for over 2,700 yards this season. Columbine, has rushed for over 3,800 yards this season.
