2016 Heritage lineman Payton Cain is reporting he received an offer earlier this week from Drake University. The 6-4 240 pounder garnered multiple post season honors for his play this season as his Eagle squad went 8-3 losing to Columbine in the second round of playoffs.
A two way lineman, Cain is being recruited to play offensive tackle in college. Cain has good feet, is a very smart technician on the offensive line and he likes to take defenders to the ground in the run game. Further, Cain has a good frame and should be able to add another 40 plus pounds in size during his college career.
Playing with his brother Marshall along the Heritage line, the duo has garnered DII, FCS, Military Academy and preferred walk on interest. The brothers share an offer from Colorado School of Mines. With signing day fast approaching Payton and Marshall are both settling on their final, official visits. Both will hit School of Mines and Adams State while Payton will make time for Drake. Along with Mines and Adams State, the Cains are hearing from CSU-Pueblo and the ThunderWolves plan on making a home visit.
Payton is also hearing from Air Force while Marshall is hearing from Navy. Northern Colorado has also shown interest in both. The bottom line on Payton is that colleges will get a hardworking, smart technician that is up for the physical rigors of college offensive line play.
