This weekend highlights the Mile High Schootout, one of the top 7on7 competitions in the Denver Metro area. Hosting the event is Team Colorado which will have two teams that will take on fellow Colorado competitors Top Gun and X-Plosive.
Players to watch for Team Colorado include Brenden Hold and Quinton Powell of Cherokee Trail, Connell Maxwell of Denver East, Maurice Wyatt of Smokey Hill and Arizona prepster Bryce Jackson of Chandler High School. From this crew Connell Maxwell is very intriguing. A very long receiver, who is a very good hands catcher and is willing to go across the middle. Defensively, Jackson, a 2018 prospect, is a very active DB with a knack for getting his hands on the ball.
Team Top Gun highlights some of Colorado’s most interesting quarterbacks. Mountain Vista QB Judd Erickson. The 6-4 205 pounder threw for nearly 2,200 yards to go with 20 TDs. Stone Samaras, a 2019 quarterback prospect, filled in at Holy Family when Chris Helbig was injured in the midst of his record setting season. Samaras threw for 500 yards and threw six touchdowns.
X-Plosive boast multiple playmakers including Mountain Vista receivers Tristen Dean and Kellen Parker. Parker, a 6-2 205 pounder, is gaining interest from Wyoming and Montana.
Football in shorts is not quite football, but the Mile High Shootout is a great format for many of the Denver areas best athletes. Further, players working into varsity spots for the first time can get reps against future college level talent. If you want to be the best, play the best. The event, this Saturday, will be held at Evie Garrett Dennis Sports Complex at 4800 Telluride Street, Denver, CO 80249. If you can’t make it out Stream it Sports will have online coverage.
