In a thirty-two team bracket of high school football teams, the top seeded teams should roll, but as we know there is a reason for playing the games. Here is a look at five games that could be interesting this weekend.
#10 Legacy Vs. #23 Doherty
This one is very interesting. Look for Darius Turner to get ball thirty plus times behind his big offensive line. Legacy QB Luke Bublitz will need to make a couple of plays. If Legacy can get early points, look for the higher seeded Lightning to get the win. If it stays close Doherty could walk away with the upset.
#14 Denver East Vs. #19 Overland
The Angels are the higher seed, but I see the Trailblazers as the favorite. So far this season East has only won one game against a 5A squad with a winning record. Overland has a balanced run game and also boasts one of the state's best playmakers in QB Devon Connors. The Trailblazers will need to keep an eye on Angel athlete Quintin Hildrith. Last week in the win over Horizon, Hildrith averaged nearly ten yards a carry.
#13 Rocky Mountain Vs. #20 Smoky Hill
If you like offense this could be the game for you. Smoky Hill is not shy about throwing the ball. QB Robert Felberg is having a very strong season, while Horizon junior Flanker Jake Stewart has established himself as a top offensive threat. Rocky Mountain comes in hot having won five in a row and should be able to pick up one more win versus the Buffaloes.
#7 Highlands Ranch Vs. #26 Rangeview
Highlands Ranch took care of Rangeview earlier this season 36-22 but I find this game interesting in that Rangeview does have threats in receiver Dominic Gunn, back Matthew Harrison and quarterback M.J. McPeek. If McPeek can keep from throwing bad interceptions this could be a ball game. Highlands Ranch will use its big line to bang at the Raiders. If Highlands Ranch gets through this game their defense that has allowed less than ten points a game could help them make a run.
#9 Bear Creek Vs. #24 Regis
I feel pretty confident that the Bears will handle Regis pretty easily, but with that said Regis QB Spencer Jackson has shown the ability to use his feet to create situations in the Regis pass game. If he can get hot like he did against Douglas County who is to say they can't pull off another miracle upset.
