Florida lands 6 players on national softball teams

Led by national champion Bartow, the state of Florida has put six players on the Student Sports Softball All-America teams.

C - Kelli Rutenbar (Bartow, Fla.) Sr.

Top hitter for nation's No. 1 team with 46 RBI and .410 average.

C - Megan Willis (Corona del Sol, Tempe, Ariz.) Sr.
She would be the No. 1 player off team that won Class 5A state title.

P - Monica Abbott (North Salinas, Salinas, Calif.) Sr.
State strikeout leader with 411 also didn't give up an earned run all season.

P - Jill DeRoche (Brighton, Mich.) Sr.
Led team to 43-1 record by going 35-0 herself with 22 shutouts, five no-hitters.

P - Kady Garrick (Canyon del Oro, Tucson, Ariz.) Sr.
Struck out 34 batters in one state playoff game and has been one of the top players in Arizona for three years.

P - Lisa Gorzycki (Bryan, Texas) Sr.
Tossed six no-hitters, 20 shutouts and nearly led team to a second straight Class 5A state crown.

P - Taryne Mowatt (Santiago, Corona, Calif.) Jr.
Racked up 23 shutouts and struck out more batters (385) than anyone else in the CIF Southern Section.

P - Brianne McGowan (Wooster, Reno, Nev.) Sr.
Led team to four straight state titles, including 57 straight state tourney innings with no runs allowed.

P - Kate Pouliot (Hillcrest, Simpsonville, S.C.) Jr.
She's the ace for a team that's on a 74-game win streak. She's 54-0 herself over the last two seasons.

P - Anjelica Selden (Vanden, Travis AFB, Calif.) Jr.
Comes from same California county as NCAA frosh phenom Alicia Hollowell and was voted state's top junior.

P - Stacey Stevens (Buchholz, Gainesville, Fla.) Sr.
Florida signee notched four straight state playoff no-hitters and had 0.12 ERA.

INF - Lauren Brennan (Carl Sandberg, Orland Park, Ill.) Jr.
Most honored player in her state and will be back next year.

INF - Kristi Fox (Mt. Carmel, San Diego, Calif.) Sr.
Junior national team member and UofA signer starred at the prep level all spring.

INF - Dominique Lastrapes (Laguna Hills, Calif.) Sr.
Followed up .568 season from last year with an even better one (.570).

INF - Jodie Legaspi (Pacifica, Garden Grove, Calif.) Sr.
L.A. Times Player of the Year was guiding force to team's No. 1 finish in California state rankings.

INF - Melissa Zick (Chamberlain, Tampa, Fla.) Sr.
Leading player for 5A state champs hit .512 and knocked in 36 runs.

OF - Jamie Hinshaw (Elkins, Fort Bend, Texas) Jr.
Top hitter in the Houston area with .520 average and major spark for one of state's top teams.

OF - Caitlin Lowe (Foothill, Tustin, Calif.) Sr.
Orange County Register Player of the Year may join two others to form all-Foothill alum outfield next season at national power Arizona.

OF - Kelsey Warning (Belleville East, Belleville, Ill.) Sr.
Only all-state pick from Class AA state champs, Warning's batting average hovered around the .500 mark all year.

MP - Randi Cook (Eagle, Idaho) Sr.
Two-time state player of the year headed for Oklahoma State only allowed one earned run in 200 innings.

MP - Holly Currie (Pisgah, Ala.) Sr.
Her final career numbers say it all: 61 homers and 1,731 strikeouts.

MP - Beth DiPietro (Riverview, Tampa, Fla.) Sr.
Swung for .391 average, rang up a 0.23 ERA and will join Holly Currie in the fall at Auburn.

MP - Lisa Dodd (University City, San Diego, Calif.) Sr.
