FOOTBALL HEROES – Week No. 8

SATURDAY'S HEROES

• Sedrick Alexander, LB, MIAMI NORTHWESTERN: Came up with 9 tackles and a fumble recovery in a 19-0 win over Miami Carol City before 25,000 fans.

• Timothy Brown, ATHLETE, MIAMI NORTHWESTERN: Returned a kick 86 yards to spark the unbeatean Bulls to a 19-0 win over Miami Carol City.

• Guy Baily, RB, MIAMI NORLAND: Scored twice to lead the defending 6A state champions to their fourth conescutive win, 28-7, over South Miami. The Vikings will play Edision for the 16-5A District title Thursday.

• Terry Williams, RB, MIAMI CENTRAL: Ran for 130 yards and 2 TD in a 30-6 win over Dr. Michael Krop.

• Pat Davis, RB, FORT LAUDERDALE CARDINAL GIBBONS: Ran 15-yards for a touchdown with 17 seconds left to give the Redskins a 28-21 win over Cooper City.

• Philip Murphy, OLB, COOPER CITY: Had 17 tackles, 1 sack, and 1 fumble recovery that led to a TD, in a 28-21 loss to Cardinal Gibbons. For the season, he has 85 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries, a partial blocked punt, 16 hurries, and many tackles for losses including 31yards on 2 muffed punts.

• Kyle Stewart, DB, MIAMI WESTMINSTER CHRISTIAN: Came up with 2 Interceptions in a 27-14 win over Miami MacArthur North. The Warriors are 8-0!

• Shane Vernon, ATHLETE, MIAMI GULLIVER: Returned a kick 90 yards for a score to spark his team to a 31-6 win over Cooper City Archbishop McCarthy.

• Wilfi Fernandez, RB, MIAMI RANSOM EVERGLADES: Ran for 141 yards and 4 TD in a 48-12 win over Miami LaSalle.

• Brandon Shore, RB, FORT LAUDERDALE PINE CREST: Rushed for 184 yards in a win over Naples St. John Neumann. He now has 1,019 yards and 19 touchdowns in 8 games.

• DiIvory Edgecomb, RB, PLANTATION AMERICAN HERITAGE: Had 27 carries for 143 yards and scored on a 77-yard run for the Patriots (5-3), who were unable to recover after a 17-0 first quarter deficit and lost 17--16 to Miami Belen Jesuit.

• Anthony Ruckers, RB, BROWARD CHRISTIAN: Rushed for 187 yards on nine carries and scored three touchdowns in a 38-8 win over Zion Lutheran.

FRIDAY'S HEROES

Brent Schaeffer, QB, DEERFIELD BEACH: Threw 253 yards, ran for 86 more and scored 5 TD in a 41-10 win over St. Thomas Aquinas.

• Johnny Gray, WR, DEERFIELD BEACH: Caught 6 passes for 119 yards and 2 TD in a 41-10 win over St. Thomas Aquinas.

• Herbert Bynes, QB, LAUDERDALE LAKES BOYD ANDERSON: Threw for 142 yards and a TD in a 14-7 win over Oakland Park Northeast.

• Demetrius Evans, RB, LAUDERDALE LAKES BOYD ANDERSON: ran for 152 yards and scored the winning TD in overtime in a 14-7 win over Oakland Park Northeast.

• Mike Gonzalez, RB, HOLLYWOOD CHRISTIAN: The sophomore scored 2 TD and ran for 143 yards in a 55-0 win over Highlands Christian.

Zach Nelson, PK, Coral Springs Taravella: Booted a 45-yard field goal that gave the Trojans an 18-16 win over rival Coral Springs.

• Amod Ned, RB, PEMBROKE PINES FLANAGAN: The talented junior ran for 152 yards and scored 3 TD in a 35-30 win over Fort Lauderdale.

• Calvin Sapp, QB, FORT LAUDERDALE: Threw for 188 yards and a score in a 35-30 loss to Fort Lauderdale.

• Jamil Clark, ATHLETE, HOLLYWOOD SOUTH BROWARD: Accounted for 3 TD, including a 30-yard interception return in a 54-7 win over Miramar Everglades.

Alphonso Smith, QB, PAHOKEE: Completed 15 passes for 263 yards and 3 TD and ran 104 yards in a 41-0 North Broward Prep.

• E.J. Biggers, QB, NORTH MIAMI BEACH: The junior accounted for 3 TD and 166 yards in a 48-0 win over rival North Miami. The Chargers will play Carol City next week.

• Anthony Henderson, RB, HIALEAH MIAMI LAKES: Ran for 162 yards and caught a TD pass in a 23-14 win over Miami Beach.

• Prince Queely, RB, MIAMI FELIX VARELA: Ran for 216 yards and a TD in a 37-14 win over Southwest Miami.

• Carl Martin, RB, and Alex Halley, QB, MIAMI CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS: Combined for 266 yards in a 10-7 win over Coral Park.

• Shawn Walden, DB, HIALEAH: Intercepted a pass and returned it 23 yards for a score in a 21-14 win over Miami American.

Kevin Smith, RB, MIAMI SOUTHRIDGE: Ran for 155 yards and 2 Td as the surprising Spartans (7-1) rolled back into the playoffs with a 28-7 win over South Dade.

• Jordan Kircher, RB, MIAMI PALMER TRINITY: Ran for 187 yards and 2 TD in a 64-0 win over Dade Christian.

• Jesse Bundrage, ATHLETE, PALMETTO: Had an interception and caught a 7-yard touchdown in a dominating 49-7 victory against St. Petersburg Lakewood.

• Miami Ford, RB, SARASOTA: The junior ran for 173 yards in a 21-0 loss to Bradenton Manatee.

Justin Treece, LB, BARTRAM TRAIL: He had 17 tackles, (12 solo, 5 assists, 5 TFL, 1 SACK, 1 blocked field goal, several QB hurries and a caused fumble in a 14-13 win over St. Augustine Pedro menendez.

Jonnie Williams, LB, HAINES CITY: Had 16 tackles including 2 for a 37-7 loss against Kathleen. For the season, he has 151 tackles, 22 for a loss, 3 caused fumbles, 2 blocked passes, 1 fumble recovery, 1 blocked field goal, 1 blocked punt, 2 touchdowns, and 1 INT.

• Wingbacks Andrew Trowbridge and Tyler Ulmer, SOUTH DAYTONA BEACH WARNER CHRISTIAN: Each scored four touchdowns and averaged more than 10 yards per carry in a 51-20 win over Upperrom Christian. Trowbridge had 18 carries for 274 yards and four touchdowns after rushing for 221 yards in last week's 28-16 defeat of First Academy, which put Warner in good position to make the playoffs. Ulmer had 13 carries for 136 yards and two touchdowns, and also caught two touchdown passes.

• Tim Nelson, PK, WILDWOOD:His third field goal, a 24-yarder with 27 seconds left, was the difference in a 22-21 win over Pierson Taylor. Nelson sealed it with an interception at Wildwood's 32 with 3.6 seconds left.

Vince Wilson, RB, DAYTONA BEACH MAINLAND: Rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown and caught a 76-yard TD pass from quarterback Jonathan Garner in a 42-0 win over Deltona Pine Ridge.

• Marshwan Gilyard, RB, FLAGLER PALM COAST: Rushed for 129 yards on 19 carries in a 38-24 win over New Smyrna Beach. More pivotal, though, was his go-ahead, 86-yard kickoff return for a score.

• Ra'Shaun Williams and Atiyah Henderson, RB, ROCKLEDGE: Combined for 274 yards and three of the Raiders' four touchdowns in a 31-8 win over Daytona Beach Seabreeze.

• Vernon Reed, RB, KISSIMMEE OSCEOLA: Ran for 160 yards and a TD in a 35-31 win over Melbourne.

Mike Hamilton, RB, MELBOURNE: Had a 168-yard, 2 Td performance in a 35-31 loss to Kissimmee Osceola.

Danny Verpaele, QB MERRITT ISLAND: Accounted for 176 yards and a TD in a 33-27 win over Sebastian River.

• Pete Oliver, WR/PK, TITUSVILLE: Caught a TD pass and also nailed field goals of 42 and 25 yards and added the extra point after his own touchdown in a 27-10 win over Bayside.

Kevin Rivers, RB, MELBOURNE HOLY TRINITY: Tallied 160 yards on four carries and three scoring runs of 24, 57 and 71 yards in a 66-0 win over St, John's Lutheran.

• Robert Morris, RB, MELBOURNE CENTRAL CATHOLIC: Turned in his second consecutive outstanding performance with 213 yards rushing and five TD in a 49-7 win over Orland First Academy.

• Quincy Jones, QB, PORT ST. LUCIE: Hit 10 of his 21 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns in a 37-14 win over Palm Beach Central.

• Treville Ewar, DB, VERO BEACH: Intercepted a pass at Vero Beach's 12-yard line with 1:25 remaining as the Fighting Indians rose from the dead in the fourth quarter to beat West Palm Beach-Palm Beach Lakes 10-7 in a critical District 5-6A showdown.

• Cedric Wilson, WR, FORT PIECE JOHN CARROLL: Caught 6 balls for 160 yards and 2 TD in a stunning 29-0 win over 1A power Fort Meade.

Chris Clemons, RB, ARCADIA DESOTO: Had 263 yards and 3 TD in a 27-22 triumph over North Port.

• Dale Hall, RB, MOORE HAVEN: The junior had touchdown runs of 98 and 5 yards and finished with 176 yards on just five carries in a 56-14 win over Lake Placid.

• Tyler Wright, LB, PUNTA GORDA CHARLOTTE: The junior scooped up a fumble and dashed 27 yards for the game's first score and sparked his team to a 14-7 win over Lake Wales.

Drew Miller, PK, SEBRING: Booted a 28-yard field goal with eight seconds left to give Sebring a come-from-behind, 35-33 victory against Riverdale.

• Rod Nash, RB, SEBRING: Had 262 yards on 22 carries and 4 TD. It was also just the third time Sebring has made the playoffs in team history, dating back to 1926. Last was in 1999.

• Brian Fitzgerald, WR, AND ANTHONY RODRIGUEZ, QB, ESTERO: Fitzgerald caught nine passes for 328 yards and three touchdowns. Rodriguez finished 15-of-26 for 377 yards, with three interceptions in a 49-29 loss to Cape Coral Mariner.

• Brian Stockinger, RB, ENGELWOOD LEMON BAY: His 6-yard run capped a 17-play, 74-yard drive in the fourth quarter, leading Lemon Bay over Immokalee 19-18.

• Demetrice Cherry, RB, HAMILTON COUNTY: Had 27 carries for a career-high 220 yards in a 28-22 overtime win over Gainesville P.K. Yonge. Included in that were 13 runs of seven yards or more and nine carries for first downs.

• Derrick Fulton, ATHLETE, LAKE CITY COLUMBIA: Returned a punt 52 yards for a touchdown to spark his team to a 47-0 win over Fort White.

• Paul O'Hara, RB, CROSS CITY DIXIE COUNTY: Rushed for 201 yards on 16 carries and scored three of his four touchdowns just 4:03 into the game as the Bears got off to a fast start and rolled past Newberry, 41-19.

• Alphonso Smith, RB, STARKE BRADFORD COUNTY: He ran for 154 yards and 2 TD in a 39-0 win over Fleming Island.

• Trent Stewart, QB, MIDDLEBURG: Had 5 TD and 210 yards in a 46-3 win over Keystone Heights.

Mike McIntosh, ATHLETE, JACKSONVILLE FIRST COAST: Caught five passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns in leading the Buccaneers (6-1) to a 23-6 win over Ribault

• Aldric George, PK, JACKSONVILLE RAINES: His 25-yard field goal in the third quarter helped in a 10-0 win over Mandarin.

• Roy Polite, RB, NEPTUNE BEACH FLETCHER: Ran for 318 yards, the first 300-yard game of his career, to lead the visiting Senators to a 42-25 victory over Jacksonville Wolfson. He scored four touchdowns.

Jake Owens, QB, JACKSONVILLE WOLFSON: Was 31-46 with 437 yards and four touchdowns in a 42-25 loss to Fletcher.

• Maurice Wells, RB, JACKSONVILLE SANDALWOOD: Ran for 383 yards and four touchdowns as visiting Sandalwood evened its record with a 63-0 win over Terry Parker.

• Stacey Brown, RB, JACKSONVILLED UNIVERSITY CHRISTIAN: Rushed for 144 yards to surpass the 1,000-yard mark for the season in a 53-18 win over Alrington Country Day.

• Hal Bishop, QB, JACKSONVILLE BISHOP KENNY: Went 18 for 27 for 286 yards and four touchdowns in a 38-35 overtime thriller against Baker County.

• Terrance Pollock, RB. ORANGE PARK: Rushed for 141 yards on 24 attempts and three touchdowns -- all in the second half -- to lead the upset of visiting Nease, 56-54.

• Mike Chapman, QB, ORANGE PARK: Threw for 310 yards and 4 TD in a 56-54 win over Nease.

• Tim Tebow, QB, NEASE: Threw for 265 yards and 3 TD in a 56-54 loss to Orange Park.

Will Oakley, WR, NEASE: The Alabama-bound standout caught 6 balls for 169 yards in a 56-54 loss to Orange Park.

Brett Bowers, S, JACKSONVILLE TRINITY CHRISTIAN: The Oklahoma-bound star picked off a pass to ingite his team to a 48-0 win over Tallahassee FAMU.

• Tony Thomas, QB, VALRICO BLOOMINGDALE: Accounted for 177 yards in a 24-14 shocker at Lakeland.

• Matt Grothe, QB, LAKELAND LAKE GIBSON: Threw for 205 yards and a TD in the Braves' 38-7 win over Winter Haven.

Brady Jackson, DB, BUSHNELL SOUTH SUMTER: Returned an interception 80 yards for a touchdown in a 37-0 win over Mount Dora.

• Phillip Fields, RB, ORLANDO BOONE: Ran for 208 yards and 2 TD in a 27-14 win over Orlando University.

• Clint Murray, DB, WINTER PARK: Returned a first-quarter fumble 96 yards to sprak his team to a 35-0 win over Orlando Colonial.

• Marvin Peoples, LB, ORLANDO EVANS: Recovered a fumble and raced 41 yards for a touchdown in a 17-10 win over Apopka.

. • Justin Roberson, PK, ORLANDO TIMBER CREEK: Booted a 37-yard field goal 2 minutes, 9 seconds remaining in a 3-0 win over Oak Ridge.

• Cameron Bateman, RB, LAKE MARY: Broke through late in the third quarter and early in the fourth, rushing for touchdowns of 42 and 37 yards. That would be enough to give Lake Mary (5-3, 2-1) a 12-6 win over traditional rival Seminole, and an edge in the Class 6A, District 2 standings.

• J.J. Bass, RB, LONGWOOD LYMAN: Rushed for 183 yards on 10 carries in leading host Lyman to a 56-13 victory over Freedom.

•Gomez Cambridge, RB, PALM BEACH GARDENS DWYER: Had for 182 yards on 32 carries and scored the winning touchdown in a 14-13 win over Delray Beach Atlantic.

• Terrance Diaz, RB, AMERICAN HERITAGE DELRAY: Had 173 yards and 2 TD in a 33-13 win over West Palm Beach King's Academy.

• Justin Jacob, QB, PALM BEACH GARDENS: Completed 8 of 9 passes for 178 yards and 3 TD in a 34-3 win over Wellington.

Larry Taylor, RB, GLADES DAY: Accounted for more than 300 yards and five touchdowns before leaving midway through the third quarter of the Gators' 49-7 rout over North Palm Beach Benjamin.

• Matt Bosher, PK, JUPITER: Connected on two 43-yard field goals and the Warriors' defense held Okeechobee to 62 yards of offense in a 21-0 victory.

• Keith Brown, WR, PENSACOLA: Scored his second TD of the game on a reverse with 36 seconds to go in a 21-14 win over Escambia, sending the Tigets to the playoffs for the second straight year.

• Damon Nickson, QB, MILTON: With time running out, he found a streaking Derek Freeman for 51 Yards for a 21-17 win over Gulf Breeze.

• Patrick Hess, QB, NAVARRE: Scored the go ahead TD with 1:13 to go then blocked a field goal to preserve the victory for Navarre in a 23-20 win over Panama City Bay.

Brandon Watkins, RB, PENSACOLA PINE FOREST: Scored 2 TD and had 132 yards in a 30-29 win over Woodham.

Joe Surratt, FB, PACE: Scored 3 TD and ran for 119 yards in a 33-20 win over Gonzalez Tate.

• Danny Royster, RB, NICEVILLE: Ran for 116 yards to ignite his team to a 35-6 win over Panama City Mosley.

• Briceton Wilson, RB, CRAWFORDVILLE WAKULLA: Ran for 172 yards and 3 TD in a 41-18 win over Tallahassee Lawton Chiles. Up next for the unbeaten war Eagles – Madison County...at home!

• Desmond Gee, RB. MADISON COUNTY: Ran for 220 yards and three touchdowns and Marquis Powell added 136 yards and two touchdowns in a 41-7 win over Taylor County.

Jarvis Myers, QB, TALLAHASSEE GODBY: Threw for 183 yards and Roy Upchurch ran for two touchdowns in a 24-13 win at Crestview.

• Tyrone McGriff, DL, FLORIDA HIGH: Had 15 tackles and 3 sacks to lead his team to a 27-7 win over Marianna.

• Dominique Whigham, RB, QUINCY MUNROE: Ran for three touchdowns and 156 yards in a 46-14 win over Chattahoochee.

Eric Miller, RB, BONIFAY HOLMES COUNTY: Scored on a 5-yard run with 19 seconds left in the game as Holmes County defeated Pensacola Catholic in a District 1-2B game, 18-13. Miller ran for 129 yards on 16 carries and also had eight tackles.

• Sidney Bryant, QB, TAMPA CHAMBERLAIN: Was a threat on the ground (14 rushes for 84 yards and two scores) and through the air (8-of-11 for 123 yards and three scores) in a 56-12 win over Tampa King.

• George Kearse, DL, TAMPA BLAKE: Finished with two sacks and an interception in Tampa Leto's opening series of the second half in a 21-8 win.

• Mike DeMarinis, QB, TAMPA CATHOLIC: Threw three touchdowns, 280 yards and rushed for another in a 27-7 win at Lakeland Santa Fe Catholic.

• Marcello Trigg, QB, TAMPA ROBINSON: Put on a show with 11 completions for 308 yards and 6 TD in a 63-7 win over Newsome.

• Kalvin Bailey, FB, SEFFNER ARMWOOD: Gained 183 yards on 23 carries in a convincing 66-7 win over Middleton. Running back Demetrius McCray had 162 yards on 13 attempts, and quarterback Jameel Williams had 189 yards on 12 carries. Armwood rushed for 569 yards and scored the first three times it had the ball to improve to 8-0, 4-0 in 4A-10.

Fred Marshall, QB, LARGO: Threw for 156 yards as the Packers hung on for a 42-23 win over Tarpons Springs East Lake.

• Mike Butler, ATHLETE, PINELLAS OSCEOLA: Had big plays on both sides of the ball. He had two receptions for 123 yards and a touchdown, plus he locked down the Patriots receivers in a 45-28 win.

• Colby Erskine, RB/DB, ST. PETERSBURG SEMINOLE: The junior had 157 yards rushing, 3 catches for 20 yards and an interception in a 27-6 win over Clearwater.

Deondrea Lindsey, ATHLETE, ST. PETERBURG CATHOLIC: Ran 11 times for 157 yards and a touchdown and had four catches for a career-record 212 yards in a 34-7 win over New Port Richey River Ridge.

• Walter Brady, RB, ST. PETERSBURG GIBBS: Ran for 192 yards and 2 TD in a 23-6 win over St. Petersburg.

• Luke Leininger, ATHLETE, GROVELAND SOUTH LAKE: Blocked a 51-yard field goal and then returned in 59 yards to help his team to a 28-11 win over Brooksville Central.

• R.J. Cobb, RB, INVERNESS CITRUS: Exploded for 256 rushing yards on 17 carries, leading his Hurricanes to a 48-21 victory over Lecanto.

• Alex Suber, QB, TAMPA JEFFERSON: Had 225 all-purpose yards (82 rushing, 143 passing) and three touchdowns in a 45-7 win over Tampa Bay Tech.

• Joe Cosimano, DB, NAPLES: Had three interceptions, a fumble recovery, and caught a fake punt pass for forty yards in a 27-0 win over Naples Barron Collier.

• Henry Kirlew, RB, ORLANDO CYPRESS CREEK: Had 35 carries for 168 yards and three touchdowns in a 43-41 win over Kissimmee Gateway. Kirlew has rushed for over 100 yards the last four games and needs 235 yards the last two games versus Orlando University and Orlando Freedom to join the 1,000-yd club.

THURSDAY'S HEROES

• Rudy Bien-Aime, PK, MIAMI EDISON: Booted the game winning field goal with 12 seconds left to send the 5A Red Raiders to a 32-29 win over previously unbeaten and No.1 Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (2A). The loss broke the Lions' 17-game regular season winning streak.

• Chad Simpson, RB, MIAMI EDISON: Ran for 125 yards and 2 TD in a thrilling 32-29 win over Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna.

• Vincent Matthew, RB, MIAMI PALMETTO: Ran for 206 yards in a 23-9 win over Homestead. The Panthers are 7-1.

• Jim Kroll, HEAD COACH, MIAMI PALMETTO: Picked up coaching victory 200 of his career in a 23-9 win over Homestead.

• Xavier Thomas, RB, CORAL GABLES: Filling in for the injured Darren Johnson, he ran for 187 yards in a 28-14 win over Miami Braddock.

• Davin Walker, ATHLETE, CORAL GABLES: Returned a kickoff 85 yards and then hauled in a 10-yard pass for a score in a 28-14 win over Miami Braddock.

• Dwayne Ireland, RB, MIAMI BOOKER T. WASHINGTON: Ran for 3 TD as the beat rival Miami Jackson, 42-7. The Tornadoes won their first ever district title earlier in the week.


Bobby Washington, RB, MIAMI KILLIAN: For the second straight year, the talented runner is putting on a second half show as he piled up 197 yards and 4 TD in a 48-0 win over Miami Sunset.

• Angel Quail, ATHLETE, HIALEAH BARBARA GOLEMAN: Accounted for 3 TD, including a 50-yard interception return in a 35-28 win over Miami Springs.

• Gartrell Shavers, RB, MIAMI SPRINGS: The senior ran for 220 yards in a 35-28 loss to Hialeah Barbara Goleman.

• Josh Kalb, RB, DAVIE WESTERN: Scored on a 6-yard run with 38 seconds left in a 10-6 win over Hallandale.

• Brandon Cooper, RB, GAINESVILLE BUCHHOLZ: Only carried the ball seven times, but he found the end zone three times and finished with 124 yards in a 42-0 win over Ocala Vanguard.

• Gavin Grigg, RB, TALLAHASSEE LEON: Ran for 158 yards and 3 TD in a 28-10 win over Tallahassee North Florida Christian.
