FLORIDAKIDS.us CLASS OF 2005 RECRUITING EVALUATION:

While you can find out just so much about watching film on an athlete or talking to him on the phone, there is a major advantage to seeing the athlete live. I have been fortunate to see more high school football players in person in the state of Florida than any other source.

In these Recruiting Briefs, I will try and give you some quick points about the athlete. If you should need a more extensive evaluation, please feel free to e-mail me at FloridaKids1@hotmail.com.

I hope you enjoy this rare look into the football players in the state from a firsthand:

PLAYER: Michael Dougherty.
SCHOOL: Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas
POSITION: QB
HEIGHT: 6-2
WEIGHT: 190
www.floridakids.us PRE-SPRING RATING: Not rated.

THE SCOOP ON THIS FLORIDA KID: If you follow St. Thomas over the years, you will understand that a two-year quarterback is just not what this program produces. Head Coach George Smith is a firm believer in giving the senior the opportunity. This year, it will be Dougherty.
EVALUATION: "Because he hasn't been able to showcase his skills in games, you can only judge this young man from what he has been able to do at camps and combines. This is a a player who has as much potential as any passer I've seen all spring and summer.
Working with famed passing guru Darin Slack, here is a football player with a very strong arm, has the accuracy to complete a high percentage of passes and is mobile.
I have a feeling that this is going to be the type of quarterback the Raiders let loose, especially with a quality running game and outstanding receivers."
THE INSIDE STORY: Very seldom does a quarterback, especially one that is a first year starter as a senior, jump to the top of the list, but here is yet another ‘late bloomer' to keep your eye on!
