Pompano Beach Ely Safety Commits to UCF

The Pompano Beach Ely Tigers joined the early commit list as one of its top defensive secondary performers said he will attend the University of Central Florida.

Only two years ago Pompano Beach Ely High School in South Florida played for and won the State Championship in the 5A Classification in Football. They had stars like Tyrone Moss, Teraz McCray, Andrew Bain, Cyrim Wimbs and Brandon Daniels to name a few. This year Ely will try and duplicate the feat in 6A. They are a loaded squad that does not have many weaknesses. With super Seniors like offensive lineman Ronnie Wilson and Cornerback Walter McFadden there are always some that get overlooked. One player that fits that description is Safety Rodney Etienne.

We got the chance to see Etienne is action at practice yesterday as the Ely football team gets ready for the upcoming season. He did not disappoint as Rodney was all over the field not only making tackles but laying the wood to some of his teammate. At 6-foot-2, 165 pounds Etienne is not the biggest safety but he sure can hit.

When www.Florida Kids.us spoke with him yesterday here is what he had to say about the upcoming season, "We can make it to Gainesville this year and win State, our whole team feels this way," he said. He also mentioned some of the teams that have shown interest, "Yeah I have heard from Auburn and Syracuse but at this time I have committed to UCF, that's where I want to play my college ball."

With Etienne the Knights got a player that is very similar to former Knight Star Asante Samuel. He has a ton of upside and his best football should still be ahead of him.
