The first ever Perfect Competition/ camp/combine was greeted by outstanding South Florida weather and nearly 100 top Class of 2006 football prospects on Saturday in Davie for an event that was truly a showcase production.

DAVIE - Two days, 250 of the top athletes in south Florida. That was the result of the first ever Perfect Competition/ Camp/Combine held on Saturday, March 19 and Sunday March 20.

Blue skies, plenty of great competition and the opportunity to learn something about enhancing the total football experience was the order of the weekend for a number of quality athletes who came from as far as Palm Beach Gardens and the southern reaches of Miami-Dade County.

"This was all about the kids," said Perfect Competition CEO Sean O'Brien. "When (former Miami Dolphin receiver) James McKnight and I planned this event out, it was to make it different than the camp and combine experience that the kids usually get this time of year."

Andy Hartmann, Plantation American Heritage

One of the first of its kind, the camp/combine began each day with four sessions that dealt with nutrition, weight training, speed and agility work and the recruiting process.

"I have played elite football and have been around top camps and competition all my life," said former Los Angeles Raider and Oklahoma Sooner Derek Crudup, Sr. "But this event far exceeded anything I could have ever thought up for these kids to be a part of. It was an honor to be a part of this."

Cody Clinton, Boca Raton

Camp No. 1 attracted nearly 100 athletes on a day where there were track meets and other camps in the area. Several of the top football players still made their way to the event and took part in afternoon drills as well as full day of enhancing their total football experience.

After the morning session and a quick lunch at the Pefect Competition facility, the scene shifted to nearby Nova High School where McKnight was joined by Dolphins tight end Randy McMichael and several area high school coaches for two hours of football.

Eddie Shepherd, Cypress Bay

The first day of this unique event had some impressive athletes come out to see what all the talk had been about for the past six weeks.

The opportunity to bring two worlds together without timing the athletes in the 40 or shuttle run or having them lift weight to see how strong they were worked out great.

What this combine/camp was all about was to help each and every athlete maximize his ability as a football player, which has been missing from post-season football.

Javon Hill, Miami Monsignor Pace

"To me, this was a great camp for instruction in the sport of football," said Miami Monsignor Pace lineman Javon Hill. "There are no camps that anyone runs that comes close to the experience we had out here. People who didn't come really missed one of the best things ever. Really, this was an experience every player left talking about."

While there were plenty of tremendous athlete on hand, there were some names most have come to recognize for the Class of 2006. Players such as Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas left tackle Sam Young, Delray Beach Atlantic receiver Preston Parker and Miami Killian offensive line prospect Kevin Perez.

Kevin Perez, Miami Killian

The camp also featured athletes like running back Marcel Archer of St. Thomas Aquinas, Boca Raton quarterback Cody Cilton, Florida Christian running back Jermaine Doctor, Hialeah running back Shomari Grant, Plantation American Heritage linebacker/fullback Andy Hartmann and Fort Lauderdale Stranahan emerging lineman Kindly Jaques, Miami Killian tight end Chris Exposito, Delray Beach Atlantic quarterback Mark McGraw, Weston Cypress Bay linebackers Eddie Shepherd and Mike Johnson and South Miami standout defensive back Patrick Robinson.

"The Saturday camp was impressive," said Charles Fishbein of and "With so many other things going on in the area and this being the first day ever of this camp/combine, what's not to be impressed with."

Sam Young, Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas

With Jamie Newberg and Scott Kennedy of and Countdown To Signing Day on hand, other players who stepped up on the first day included linebacker/fullback Michael Rodriguez of Hollywood Christian and defensive lineman Jared Martin of Davie Western.
