UF landed an outstanding 2008 class highlighted by super freshmen Janoris Jenkins, Will Hill, Matt Patchan and Jeff Demps. Since Urban Meyer arrived, UF has been outstanding on the recruiting trail and they had very few 'needs' for 2009.
2009 FLORIDA TALENT(8)RB Mike Gilleslie, WR Andre Debose, OL Nick Alajajian, OL Jonotthan Harrison, OL Jon Halapio, DE Kedric Johnson, DT Gary Brown, LB Jon Bostic
Great class from the Sunshine State. Debose is the most dynamic play-maker in the country. Brown might be the headliner of the entire class in four years, he has all the tools to be a first round NFL pick. UF landed 3 of the top 6 offensive linemen from the state. Bostic is a top 4 linebacker in Florida. Johnson and Gilleslie are solid depth. UF went all over the state: south to Palm Beach County for Bostic, into the panhandle for Brown, to SW Florida for Alajajian, and did well in Central Florida(Debose, Harrison, Halapio, Johnson). Losing Richardson hurt, he was committed for a long time.
Jelani Jenkins is everything you can ask for in a LB prospect, UF landed an absolute stud here. UF landed a couple of big-time OT prospects in Nixon(NC) and Koehne(IN). S Dee Finley(AL) is a re-sign from the year before who went to Prep School and Evans is a guy the UF staff is real high on. UF likes Jordan Reed(CT) a lot at QB. Parks(SC) has a ton of upside. They went to Juco for DT depth with Herbert. Losing Teague hurt a little at cornerback.
ONES THAT GOT AWAY
RB Trent Richardson: The only position where UF has struggled the last 3-5 years has been at RB. They have done more than fine with the 'scatbacks with speed', but having a hammer like Richardson opens up a whole new dimension. They fought late here and almost turned him, but once again 'miss' on the the 'big gun' at RB.
Nu'keese Richardson: He committed to UF in May and the Gators held onto him until the night before signing day......where Tennessee closed like a freight train. He was a real good fit for UF and it's offense.
Jarvis Jones: Big LB/DE out of Georgia who was a Florida lean for most of the process. He ended up at USC.
Ryne Giddins: Local product from Armwood. Grades were a concern, but he chose to stay home and play for the Bulls. Big-time talent.
TELL ME WHY
Jamal Reid: UF seemingly allowed Miami to take this talented prospect from their neck of the woods without a fight. This is not a 'miss' because clearly their attention was elsewhere, but Reid showed some real tools at the Under Armour Game. He would seem to be versatile enough for any system.
GRADE: B+. Almost any school would be ecstatic with this recruiting class. However, this is UF who has now won two National Championships in three years. A few big-time out of state players got away. It is still a tremendous class that fills needs, brings more speed, and they really have zero depth chart concerns going forward. In that sense, what more can you ask for? The losses of Nu'keese and Teague on signing day have to sting a little and missing on Jarvis Jones and Trent Richardson did not help matters. There was the opportunity for the 'big close' and it just did not happen for UF this year. Still, this is a class of '16' and it is filled with studs and guys with big-time potential........and a few extra ships in 2010 won't hurt. Also, Orson Charles is still out there and there is a good chance he makes it into this class.

A LOOK AHEAD: UF has four commits already for 2010, all from the Sunshine State. Matt Elam may be the top prospect in Florida. Trey Burton is the top QB. Demar Dorsey is a big-time athlete(4.3 type speed at safety). Ian Silberman is a great looking OT prospect. 2010 is loaded in Florida and UF should be able to get most of what they need in-state. S, TE, and DT might be the three biggest 'needs'(used loosely on a loaded roster). Players like Chris Dunkley, Roy Finch, Chaz Green, and Corvin Lamb have expressed early interest in UF.
