Interest in Kearse on the Rise

The name Kearse reverberates through SW Florida as Jevon has starred at UF and in the NFL. Now it is time for his cousin Desmond to do his thing. Desmond recorded 25 sacks as a junior and has one of the best first steps in the country.

Despite the gaudy numbers Desmond's recruitment has taken some time to get going, "I am talking with a lot of schools and we had plenty of teams come by in the Spring. I guess the question is where to play me at the next level. Right now I am undersized at DE, but I know I can play S or OLB at the next level as well."

The 6'2, 185 Kearse addressed his future, "I play DE because my team needs me there. We have great athletes at Dunbar, but not a lot of size. The combination of Means (Devouris) and myself produced over 40 sacks last year and that was one of the keys to our great season."

The Dunbar Tigers were 10-2 on the year and lost a heart-breaker to Naples in the second round of the playoffs, "We have unfinished business in 2009. We lost a couple of great play-makers, but we should be stronger as a team."

A recent trip through the South had Kearse playing in space, "I showed what I can do at Tennessee during their Volball games. That was a lot of fun, it is real fast paced and you have to cover. I played CB at the Alabama 7on7 and I think I opened some eyes. Some opposing coaches could not believe I was a DE in high school with the way I covered. I also had a good weekend in Tampa at the BadgerSport 7on7 event at safety."

On the recruiting trail, the athlete with 4.5 speed talked about his future, "I don't have any favorites right now. Several schools are showing me a lot of interest and I plan on giving them all a good look. I am interested in their academics, how I relate to the coaches, and what their plans are for me positionally."

After registering 25 sacks, does he have any personal goals for 2009? "I just want to win a lot of games, if we all work hard, listen to the coaches, and do our assignments we can go a long way and the stats will take care of themselves."
