Palmer Receives Air Force Offer

During a very impressive Spring season, Florida DL Danny Palmer had been turning head at schools in the Big 10, ACC, and Big 12. The scouting report on Palmer is that he is an extremely physical, tough, and relentless DL who plays with a high motor. An explosive first step with great lateral agility project well to the next level. He has an outstanding work ethic and with leadership qualities.

Palmer received some good news early last week when he received an offer from Air Force, "The U.S. Air Force Academy is an awesome place. It's right in the middle of the mountains in Colorado Springs and sits on 22,000 acres. They have everything imaginable there including a 36-hole golf course on the base. I got to spend two days with DL Coach Ron Burton. He used to play in the NFL and already gave me a couple of good pointers that I can use. He cares a lot about his players, and I really like him. Family, church and values are things we both had in common, and I could really relate to him. We talked about all kinds of things, like friends, snow skiing and other stuff that wasn't just football. Coach Burton said that my athleticism would let them do some different things on the d-line. He expects me to be an impact player pretty early."

That was not only bit of good news, another school offered as well, "The Citadel offered full rides to both my brother, Jeff Dorcely, and me on Thursday. We both play for Lake Brantley on the defensive linemen. We went on an unofficial visit Thursday and really liked the coaches and the town. Charleston is a cool old place and isn't very far from home for us. The Citadel is the first school to offer both my brother and me together. It would be awesome to play together."

Palmer went on, "We toured the school and town, and at the end of the day Coach Higgins offered us. He said he wants us both and that our offers are coming earlier than usual and are both full rides. Except for two QB's, we're the only players they've offered so far this year. Coach Higgins was really open and honest with us. He expects me to be an impact player and a team leader early on. I like him a lot and know he's a great coach. We both like to do community and church work, and he told us about a Bible study group that would be great because a lot of his players go to it. Coach Cronin, the Citadel's D-Line coach was at Florida last year, and he visited me in the Spring at Lake Brantley. He's a really cool guy and jokes around a lot and I know he'd be a lot of fun to play for. Also, we spent a lot of time going over defensive alignments with Coach Collins, the defensive coordinator. He's a great guy who really knows what he's doing and is very passionate about defense."

Palmer's trip has been going on for a while, "I'll be on a plane this afternoon headed to Western Michigan. I went to Illinois, Missouri and Illinois State last week too. Illinois and Illinois State seem close to offering too."

Palmer wants to get home and think about the schools, see who is really interested, and go from there but he did have some top schools, "My top schools right now (in alphabetical order) are: Air Force, Duke, Illinois, Illinois State, Missouri, N.C. State, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, The Citadel and Western Michigan."

With high school football season right around the corner, there is time for one more event, "next week I'm heading to FBU's TOP GUN Competition in Paisley, Florida. They invited back the Top athletes from 32 camps across the country and it will be a lot of fun competing against the best of the best. I'm really looking forward to it."
