Corker Commits to Texas Tech

One of the top WR's in Florida decided to play his ball in Texas on Monday afternoon. Cardinal Gibbons standout WR Shawn Corker is a big, physical WR with speed and soft hands. He is versatile player who had 33 catches for 720 yards and 9 touchdowns as a junior.

After months of speculation, Corker said, "I committed to Texas Tech. I talked to the whole coaching staff including academic advisers and I am excited to be a part of the program. It was a big decision, but one I feel very comfortable with, I'm excited. I fell in love when I was out there, it is a great college town, very little distractions, a great fit. The coaches and players really made me feel at home, they showed me a lot of love."

A consistent, big play threat for Gibbons, Corker has thought about the future, "My goals are to play four years, break some records, get my degree, and take my game to the next level."

Cardinal Gibbons Offensive Coordinator Matt Dubuc had this to say, "Mental toughness, athletic ability, and high character are the attributes that best describe Shawn. He comes from a great family, his mother raised him well, and we have been very fortunate to have him. We look forward to him leading us deep into the playoffs next year."

There is another connection with Dubuc, he is a former player at Texas Tech (and Cardinal Gibbons), many in the area still rave about Dubuc's abilities. Corker went on, "He is one of the smartest coaches I have been around, he really knows the game, he has helped me a great deal, and he speaks very highly of his Texas Tech experience."

Head Coach Mike Morrill was also a big part of Shawn's recruitment, "He was very organized, he kept everything together, he was out of town for three weeks, but when he came back he helped me narrow down my choices, and we talked about the decision together."

Texas Tech fans can be very excited today, Corker added, "I am excited about the competition in the Big 12, I want to work hard for them, and help take the program to the next level. I know several other players in Florida who are thinking about Texas Tech, there could be more good news on the way."
