da Baker TE/DE Jonathan Garcia became Wake Forest's 11th commitment and 4th from Florida on Saturday. The versatile, hard working Garcia is 6'3, 235 and joins 2009 FB Tommy Bohanon as players for the Demon Deacons from Lee County.
p>ABOUT THE PLAYER:
We have enjoyed watching Garcia develop over the last several years. He first caught our eye as a skinny DE his sophomore year where he constantly wreaked havoc in the offensive backfield. Over that time, he has gained considerable strength and weight and now is a chiseled 6'3, 230+. He is an excellent student in the class room and possesses high character with leadership qualities. Garcia will get time at TE in 2009, but will also move to MLB as a senior. That move, while shoring up the Bulldog defense, should really help Garcia's development as a football player. Garcia is one of those players who gets better every day and is going to a program where that trend will continue. He is going to be north of 250 in no time and has picked up the nuances of the passing game. He is a threat to stretch the field and has improving hands. There is no question he could stay on the defensive side of the ball and play DE, he has a non stop motor, quick feet, and brute strength. However it is believed that WF wants to use Garcia offensively.
FOR WAKE FOREST: Wake Forest has four Florida commits this year: Merril Noel, Zachary Allen, Desmond Cooper, and now Garcia. Last year they landed 6 players from the Sunshine State. They did land two TE's last year: Patrick Thompson (6'2, 200) and Logan Feimster(6'4.5, 228). Wake Forest has made a commitment to recruiting Florida and they consistently do a great job of identifying 'football players' and guys with high character....Garcia fits this mold. As mentioned, this is two years in a row they have pulled a player from Lee County (Bohanon).
