"He's tall, but he's real flexible," said Vidalia Head Coach Sid Fritts. "He doesn't have any trouble getting low, so I think he can be a great defensive tackle on the next level."
Who has the early inside track on signing this mammoth lineman?
"I took him to camps at Georgia, Auburn, and Tennessee last summer, and they all loved him of course. They've all informally offered him a scholarship. Those are the three that have seen him the most, but there will be more after him for sure."
Coach Fritts said that McClendon is not only a great prospect but a great person as well.
"I tell you what. If I needed a babysitter for my two little girls, I wouldn't hesitate leaving them with Eric. That's just the kind of kid he is. He's nice as can be and a hard worker."
There can be no doubt about the hard work. A quick look at the picture included shows a player that is dedicated in the weight room. McClendon finished second in the state power lifting championships and can bench 365 pounds, squat 565, and really use his leverage well with a 350 pound power clean.
He is truly a man among boys at the high school level, and he will be one of the most highly pursued prospects in the country this year.
