2003 Preview: Redan

Redan of 7-AAAAA faces a rebuilding year with a lot of new faces in the starting lineup.

Redan High School will be rebuilding this year after a 4-6 season last year. The Raiders have only five total starters returning, but there is experience in the backfield. Travis Jones will be returning at quarterback, and he is a three year starter.

Jones will not be alone in the middle of the offense as Brian Ware will key the offensive line at center along with Dontarrius Simmons at Guard. Charles Prior returns at fullback, and a player to watch this year is Ronald Varner. Varner is a gifted running back that will be playing in only his second year of varsity football.

Erik Putman will be quarterbacking the defense from his free safety position. This will be his third year to start as well. Simmons will pull double duty and play defensive end as well.

Redan faces an early region matchup with Lithonia at Lithonia on August 29th. Head Coach Willie Griffeth will get an early feel for the progress of his new starters before cutting their teeth against the likes of Douglass, Stephenson, Southwest Dekalb, and Tri-Cities.
