CES/GAVSV Player of the Week - Offense

Sean McVay of Marist is the Competitive Edge Sports/ Offensive Player of the Week.

Sean McVay of Marist is listed as a 2nd All-State Selection by as an athlete. A player with his ability needed to have a spot on the roster somewhere, whether it be at quarterback, wide receiver, or corner. McVay showed Southwest Dekalb and an audience on Comcast and 680 The Fan what he was capable of doing last week.

McVay rushed 12 times for 124 yards and two touchdowns and threw for 77 yards and another touchdown on four of six passing in just over one half of work in Marist's dismantling of 5A Southwest Dekalb. For his efforts he is being named the Competitive Edge Sports/GAVSV Offensive Player of the Week for Week 1.

"He certainly is the heart and soul of our football team," said Marist Head Coach Alan Chadwick. "We were not a great football team last year, but he was able to make a lot of plays and convert so many (3rd) down and distances that we normally wouldn't convert. He's done an excellent job learning and running our offense in his first full year last year at quarterback, and he came up with excellent plays on all three of our first drives against Southwest Dekalb. I think people got an idea of how explosive he is."

Up 14-0 with the second quarter winding down, McVay broke the backs of the Panthers with a 61 yard touchdown run.

"There were about three minutes left in the second quarter, and I got the cutback lane and got to score," said McVay. "The offensive line blocked awesome all night long. Our running backs Chris Davis and Anderson Russell ran hard and made some great blocks all night. It really made my job a lot easier. We knew they were going to be physically very tough, and I knew we'd have to come in and execute. We felt like we executed the way we wanted to, and things went pretty well."

McVay runs the option offense to perfection for Marist, and he is getting looks from college coaches from around the country.

"I've gotten a lot of calls this week. I like Rice a lot right now. Maryland is recruiting me pretty hard. Maryland likes me at corner, and Rice likes me as a quarterback. Duke has been recruiting me pretty hard lately too and so has Georgia Tech. Those are the teams I like along with Miami of Ohio (Offer).

Dunwoody is on the schedule for Marist tonight, and Tucker looms large next week. McVay is not looking ahead though.

"Dunwoody is a tough team with a lot of great athletes. They are a team that is very capable of beating us, and we can't take them lightly."
