McEachern's C.J. Barrows had gotten loose in the flats after having caught a pass from Quarterback Andrew Suggs. The ball was jarred loose, and Blue caught the ball in the air and returned it for a touchdown; the ball never hit the ground. In that same second quarter Blue returned a Suggs interception for a touchdown, and he picked Suggs off again late in the second. His second quarter was a highlight reel in itself, and enough to make him this week's Competitive Edge Sports/GAVSV Defensive Player of the Week.
"That was my first varsity start," said Blue. "I was excited to get out there and play McEachern, because they are such a rival for us."
Blue moved to Marietta in the 6th grade, and he has been a gift to Head Coach Friday Richards' program.
"We were down in East Point when I moved here. I think I would have gone to Tri-Cities."
Coach Friday is glad that he made the move to join the Blue Devils.
"We were just real proud of him as a staff the way he stepped up in his first start," said Coach Richards. "He has a great feel for the game."
Blue may not have another game like the one he had in his first, but if last Friday was any indication, he's going to have quite a career at Marietta High School.
