CES/GAVSV Player of the Week - Offense

Andrew Varner of McNair is the Competitive Edge Sports/ Offensive Player of the Week.

Andrew Varner of McNair High School had a night to remember last Friday. Varner posted seven touchdowns in the 64-0 thrashing of Druid Hills. His seven touchdowns came on only 17 carries. According to the AJC, Varner's touchdown runs came on carries of 23, 2, 21, 11, 13, 4 and 5 yards. Varner averaged and impressive 12.4 yards per carry on his non-touchdown runs.

His efforts on the night make him this week's Competitive Edge Sports/GAVSV Offensive Player of the Week.

"I felt good out there," said Varner. "I scored on my first touchdown. Coach Gilbert let me go after the record. But I think he thought the record was seven, so I only got to tie it," added Varner with a laugh.

"He had five touchdowns in the first half," said Gilbert. "Things went well for us. Andrew is a good student that is fully qualified."

Varner is also a member of the track team at McNair, and he has helped lead his team to a 2-0 start. Avondale is next up in trying to stop the Mustang Express.
