Valdosta tries to take the sunshine out of Lincoln

The annual Valdosta-Lowndes is always a big draw in Winnersville, but coming in a close second is the annual Lincoln (FL)-Valdosta game.

Every year, Lincoln Head Coach David Wilson brings his troops to South Georgia, and usually the Trojans are the number one team in the state of Florida. 2003 is no different, Lincoln is number one in 4A and don't think Valdosta Head Coach Rick Darlington hasn't noticed.

"They're real well coached and real talented. We won't see teams like this all season", says Darlington, "they usually have around 7-10 Division 1 recruits and this year is no different."

Coach Darlington never played Lincoln during his time at Apopka, and he's pretty happy about that. Lincoln is a team that can ruin your season real quick.

The fans of Valdosta don't mind the game, but the fans in Tallahassee seem to like it more.

"I think Coach Wilson enjoys this game a lot", says Darlington, "It'll make us a better team, as long as no one gets hurt.

But there are no plans to cancel this series, we plan on playing them well into the future." So far, Valdosta has been led by their two ring leaders.

Running Back Corey James and Wide Receiver-Defensive End Sedrick Hill have led a Valdosta team that looks like it could be a title contender in 2003.

The Lincoln game won't make a difference in the playoff situation, but it would go a long way for bragging rights for the next year.

"We have a great team thing going here in Valdosta", says Darlington, "so far it has been wonderful. The fans are great, the city is great. Lincoln is going to be tough. They are big and we'll need to be prepared."
