Valdosta rides the wave of a six game win streak

Valdosta Head Coach Rick Darlington insists that this week is no different from any other week during the regular season. Coach D says the Cats practice the same way no matter what.

That may be true for the coaches, but the players hear it from the other students. It's playoff time in the Peach State as 7-3 Valdosta plays host to 6-4 Riverdale.

Here are two teams that started off completely different. Valdosta began the season at 1-3, wondering if they'd ever make the playoffs. The Raiders on the other hand started off 4-0 and the proceeded to go 2-4 the rest of the way.

"Riverdale has a good team", says Darlington, "they have athletic players and remind me a lot of Coffee County."

The Pirates run a Wing T offense which would give even the best defensive coordinator nightmares.

But the Wildcat defense is one of the main reasons that VHS is in this postion, as region champs and playoff hosts.

It would have been easy for this team to fall over after that 1-3 start, but it never happened.

"The kids bought into everything", says Darlington, "I always said, if we just cut out the mistakes, we'd be a good football team."
