VHS Has It's Sights Set on the Dome

There's a major difference between the football played in South Georgia compared to the football played in the rest of the state. There's especially a difference at Valdosta High School.

The Wildcats are just a couple of wins away from a state championship and after their 1-3 start, just the thought of a title is amazing.

"I'm proud of the guys, i'm proud of the entire team", says Valdosta Head Coach Rick Darlington, "They stuck together, they're having fun, and doing the right things. Winning is a by-product of doing a lot of things right, and we're doing that."

What Valdosta is doing is winning. 8 straight as they get ready for Cherokee this weekend.

Brian Dameron has his team at 10-2 overall, 4-1 in the region. Cherokee brings a new aspect of offense to Valdosta, the dreaded option.

"They have a good offense", says Darlington, "They run the option with a power game. They are a different type of team than we are accustomed to. No one runs the option in South Georgia."

If you like offense, there may not be a better offense to watch than Cherokee. They've put up point totals like 57 against Milton and 48 against Northview, and that was in week one. The two Cherokee losses were by only 7 points, so this team is legit.

"I don't like playing the option", says Darlington, "they are very physical and good on defense..it'll be a tough challenge."
