Valdosta's Williams is becoming one or the best

Valdosta's Carlton Williams is like Teddy Roosevelt in one big way. He speaks softly, but carries a big stick. That's been Williams' mantra for his entire career at Valdosta.

The Wildcat senior safety and team captain was recently named as the Region 1-AAAAA Defensive Player of the Year. Williams isn't receiving the Division one scholarships that he thought would come his way, but he will go down as one of the best defensive leaders in Valdosta High School history.

C-Dub as his mates call him, has 96 tackles, two interceptions, and two fumble recoveries for VHS this season.

Head Coach Rick Darlington has said all along that C-Dub is a defensive leader. Williams will play on Saturdays next year, it's just not clear where, although Duke and South Carolina are high on the list.

Williams will also play in the Georgia North-South All-Star game on December 30th in Columbus.

At 6'3, Williams would make a superb defensive back for any college lucky enough to acquire his services, but for now, his only focus is winning Valdosta another state championship, and that can be achieved this Saturday night against Camden County.
