Cherokee DE/TE Picks up 1st Offer

Joe Happe is a 6'5, 220 lb DE/TE out of Cherokee High School in Canton, Ga. Happe, is an athletic lineman that played mainly on the defensive line last year. At end, Happe registered 10 sacks and over 70 tackles. He also played a little tight end where he was used as a blocker the majority of the time. Joe is being recruited as both defensive end and tight end, and he recently picked up his first offer.

"The Citadel is the first school to offer me," said Joe Happe. "Other schools that are recruiting me pretty hard are Duke, Cincinnati, Florida, Vanderbilt, Georgia, Louisville, East Carolina, Georgia Southern and Illinois."

Happe is an athletic lineman that a lot of coaches like at tight end. Even though he didn't catch many passes last year and has much more experience at defensive end, the coaches tell Happe they can see him becoming a very successful tight end at the college level. Happe is working hard to add some strength and weight this summer. Happe currently benches 290 lbs, squats 420, runs a 4.8 40 and has a 4.28 shuttle time.

Other than working out, Happe has also been camping this summer.

"I have been to camps at The Citadel, Georgia Southern, Cincinnati, East Carolina and Duke. It has been very busy, but I have learned a lot at each camp."

What does Heppe feel his strong and weak points are in his game?

"My strengths at defensive end would be, my pass rush and quickness. My weakness would be my weight. I really need to add weight. At tight end, I just need more reps to get better all around."

Does Happe have an early Top Five?

"Right now, it would be Florida, Duke, East Carolina, The Citadel and Georgia Southern. I am going to play out my senior year and see what happens. I am not going to commit early because I want to wait and see all my options."

Grades are no question for Happe; he has a 3.4 GPA to go with a 1030 SAT.

Joe Happe is a new name to most recruiting fans, but he is one you want to keep an eye on this season.
