Washington County does it again

Washington Co captures its second All-Class weightlifting title in a row.

For the second season in a row Washington County won the All-Class weightlifting competition. Located in Sandersville, Washington County outscored Appling Co, Sequoyah, and Harris County to claim the title.

Head Coach Rick Tomberllin was extremely pleased with his team's effort and pointed out that weight training is important to high school athletes.

"There is a growing need to eliminate injuries. Weightlifting makes kids bigger, faster, and stronger. You are training athletes to have carry over from the weight room to the field."

Washington County has seen success in its football program due to weightlifting. The Golden Hawks have won more games in the last decade than any other Georgia High School team (115).

Washington County's individual winners follow:
State Champion
Clay McDaniel 165lb class

State runner - up
Ray Moon 185lb class
Dwayne Renfroe 220lb class
Trent Ingram 240lb class

4th place
Jamel Lyman 145lb class
