Washington County features five seniors in 2002

Washington County prepares for another state title run. This season five talented seniors will lead the way.

Washington County has experienced a ton of success in the last decade. In 2002 Head Coach Rick Tomberlin will depend on Preston Smith, Clem McDavid, Travis Lockhart, Ray Moon, and Jimmy Eason to guide the Golden Hawks back to the state playoffs and perhaps the state title.

Preston Smith is a 6'3" 205 pound quarterback that Tomberlin says is as versatile as they come.

"Preston will be a blue chip Division I prospect as a QB, DB, or WR"

He runs a 4.6 40-yard dash and power cleans 275. He threw for 980 yards last season as a junior.

Clem McDavid is a fine kicker that Tomberlin says, "will get a chance to kick at the next level."

McDavid scored a 1190 on the PSAT and has a perfect GPA of 4.0, so qualifying will not be an issue. He averaged 37.8 yards a punt and hit 80 percent of his field goal attempts last season. His long punt of the year was 63 yards and his longest field goal was 46 yards.

At 6'3" 265, Travis Lockhart is one of the biggest players on the Washington County team. Tomberlin calls him a "great center prospect." But Lockhart's 3.7 GPA and 980 SAT score means that he will be solid in the classroom as well. Lockhart runs a 5.0 forty and does a 450 squat.

Ray Moon runs a 4.6 forty-yard dash and power cleans 280. He is a 5'11" linebacker/fullback that Tomberlin calls "hard nosed." Moon's grades are in great shape as well. Currently he has a 3.5 GPA and a 950 SAT score.

According to Tomberlin, Jimmy Eason is "new to football, but he will develop into an outstanding prospect". Eason has his grades in gear as well with his 3.4 GPA. This 6'5" 260 combo defensive/offensive lineman is getting high marks from the Washington County staff. __________________________________________________
