2006 Football Preview

Region 5-AA was least unaffected by realignment and the region is made up
entirely of teams in 4-AA from a year ago. Only East Laurens stayed in 4-AA for
2006, leaving 5-AA with a familiar lineup.
Heard County won 4-AA last year with a 9-0 region mark and finished overall at 10-2. This year could be another solid year for the Braves as the entire offensive line returns, anchored by Jason Vise (6-5, 289), while junior Dontavius Jackson will start at running back.
Macon County should also be strong after finishing with a 10-3 record last year and a 7-2 mark in Region 4-AA. Coach Bobby Hughes does have some big holes to fill in the offensive backfield and at linebacker, but he feels good about his defense. Juniors Courtney Green and Jimmy Daniels make up a solid defensive front, while senior Jamarcus Thomas returns at strong safety.
