Fannin County is out while East Hall and Lumpkin County are in the newly formed Region 7. East Hall's move up in classification means that all of Hall County's public schools will compete in the same region. Chestatee, East Hall, Gilmer, Lumpkin County, North Hall and White County compile the A subregion, while Flowery Branch, Gainesville, Johnson, Pickens and West Hall make up the B subregion.

North Hall just missed the postseason last year after a strong season in 2004. After a rebuilding year, expect to see the Trojans back in the playoff hunt.

Chestatee had its best season in school history last year when the War Eagles earned a trip to the state playoffs. Chestatee hopes to make it two straight appearances, but there are some key players that need to be replaced. Senior cornerback Lane Vasser (5-10, 170) returns to lead the defense.

Despite moving up in class, East Hall figures to challenge for the postseason. The Vikings have a pair of Division I prospects in offensive lineman Korentheus Bailey (6-2, 270) and cornerback Jonathan Osborne (5-11, 175).

White County, Lumpkin County and Gilmer won't figure in the postseason race.

The B subregion will come down to the winner of the Flowery Branch-Gainesville contest. Gainesville visits Flowery Branch on Oct. 13.

If Gainesville can play defense, they certainly have a chance to go deep in the postseason. A pair of standouts in seniors Nick Claytor (6-6, 320) and Charles Wood (6-4, 275) anchor the offensive front. Claytor is rated a four-star prospect by scout.com.

Flowery Branch reeled off seven straight before eventual state runner-up Dougherty ended the Falcons' season in the quarterfinals. There is enough returning talent for Flowery Branch to duplicate last year's success. Seniors Devin Reed (6-0, 180) and linebacker Josh Wilson (6-0, 200) are two key returners.

Pickens was a playoff team last season but must fill some key positions if they plan on returning.

West Hall and Johnson should improve but not enough to figure in the region race.
