First Half Highlights
East Paulding had the ball first in the second half but was unable to move it.
That was bad news for the Raiders as senior quarterback Gary Marshall and senior
fullback Preston Lyons went to work with the potent Marist option.
Lyons finished off the drive with an impressive run to the endzone that had him
hurtling past would be defenders at the line of scrimmage. Colin Gallagher added
an extra point for a commanding 20-0 lead with just over five minutes left in
the third quarter.
The 20-0 lead seemed to break the spirit of the East Paulding Raiders as
Marshall and Lyons continued to eat up huge chunks of yards on the ground. This
time it was Marshall finishing off the drive with a 30 yard burst up the middle
to put Marist up 27-0 with 1:37 left in the third.
East Paulding wasn't exactly ready to head for the bus yet though. With the aid
of two pass interference penalties, one on fourth and five, and some big running
plays from senior running back Chris Smith, quarterback Chas Henry kept the ball
on a rollout pass and took it into the endzone to get the Raiders on the board.
Marist led 27-7 with 10 minutes left in the fourth.
Marist used its running game to help run the clock down in the fourth, and the
score stood as a final: 27-7 and Marist will meet Northside Warner Robins for
the State Championship next week.
